What this Job Entails:
The Network Operations Engineer III is a senior-level role that focuses on the operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of both optical and IP networks. This position demands a high degree of independence, accuracy, and attention to detail. The engineer will address a wide range of complex network issues, working on diverse problems with minimal supervision. This role requires a deep understanding of optical and IP networking, hardware technologies, and network management tools.
Scope:
• Resolve a wide range of network issues creatively and effectively.
• Monitor the performance and health of optical and IP networks using advanced network management tools.
• Tackle diverse and complex problems, applying sound judgment and innovative solutions.
• Operate with minimal guidance on daily tasks, requiring only general instructions for new assignments.
• Troubleshoot and resolve network issues to ensure minimal downtime and service disruptions.
Your Roles and Responsibilities: Network Management:
• Manage and optimise hardware technologies to maintain network performance and capacity.
• Engage in day-to-day troubleshooting, working with multiple vendor equipment, and resolving various software and hardware issues.
Issue Resolution:
• Address network traffic issues and respond to queries raised by XFNs and partners.
• Collaborate with XFNs and vendors to resolve network-related problems promptly and effectively.
• Conduct root cause analysis for network outages, providing detailed reports and solutions.
Cross-functional Collaboration:
• Work closely with service providers, colocation facilities, and XFNs globally, ensuring seamless network operations.
• Support network infrastructure projects and collaborate with cross-functional teams on new network initiatives.
Additional Duties:
• Take on other duties as required, contributing to the overall success and reliability of the network infrastructure.
Required Qualifications/Skills:
• Bachelor’s degree (B.S/B.A) from a four-year college or university, with 5 to 8 years of related experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Proven experience in optical networking (DWDM, CWDM) and IP networking (IPv4/IPv6, MPLS, BGP, OSPF).
• Strong judgment in selecting appropriate methods and techniques for obtaining network solutions.
• Comprehensive understanding of fiber-optic technology, including cable types, connector types, optic types, patch panels, and optical transport technologies.
• Experience in preparing root cause analysis reports for network and server outages.
• Strong communication skills, capable of effectively working with global service providers, colocation facilities, and ISPs.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience working in a multi-vendor network environment.
• Relevant network certifications such as CCNP, NCIP, OCA, or equivalent.
Physical Demand & Work Environment:
• Ability to perform office-related tasks, including prolonged sitting or standing.
• Capability to move within an office environment and effectively use a computer.
• Must have strong communication skills for effective collaboration and coordination.
• Occasional repetitive motions of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers may be required.
