The Opportunity This position works out of our Costa Rica – Alajuela location in the EP Division. In Abbott’s Electrophysiology (EP) business, we’re advancing the treatment of heart disease through breakthrough medical technologies in atrial fibrillation, allowing people to restore their health and get on with their lives.
As the Buyer III, you will be responsible to ensure materials, services, and supplies used in the Facility are procured at competitive pricing and that quality/quantities are appropriate. This may include obtaining price quotes, specifications and other information required for purchasing decisions. May also include supplier performance tracking and reporting. Locates, recommends and supports implementation of alternative supply in line with requirements.
What You’ll Do
Supplier Management & Performance Improvement
• Develop and maintain strong, long-term supplier partnerships • Monitor supplier performance and drive corrective actions as needed • Lead supplier evaluations and continuous improvement initiatives • Collaborate with SQE and vendors to resolve quality issues Strategic Sourcing & Procurement
• Manage sourcing and quoting activities for goods and services • Support division objectives through cost-effective procurement strategies • Lead special projects to reduce costs and improve efficiency Inventory Planning & Materials Management
• Plan and schedule deliveries to align with production needs • Maintain optimal inventory levels based on forecasts • Partner with inventory control to resolve discrepancies and shortages Operational Support & Cross-Functional Coordination
• Support materials needs for new product development (R&D projects) • Coordinate returns, replacements, and credit arrangements for nonconforming goods • Communicate effectively with internal teams and external suppliers Data Management & Administrative Support
• Maintain and update supplier databases (e.g., ASL) • Provide materials-related administrative support and documentation • Ensure accurate recordkeeping and data integrity Required Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in business, Supply Chain, Finance, Industrial Engineering or equivalent (required). • 3+ years of experience in a materials / procurement environment. • Experience in the medical manufacturing field desirable. • Advanced computer skills in a Windows based environment. • Understanding of MRP, purchasing, and production principles. • Able to identify and implement cost savings opportunities and implement plans to realize savings. • Advance Commands of English / Required
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience in the medical manufacturing field desirable. • Statistical data analysis and report writing skills is a plus. • Basic project management skills desirable. • Basic business planning and strategic thinking desirable. • Knowledge of ISO, GMP, JIT, ERP, SAP and Lot control desirable
