About the Role
This is a senior leadership role with full accountability for UK terminal operations. You'll be the driving force behind Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) compliance across all sites, while also owning operational performance, cost control, and efficiency. Working closely with depot teams, head office, and international stakeholders, you'll embed a strong safety culture and ensure the business runs compliantly, efficiently, and to a high standard.
What You'll Be Doing
Operational Leadership
Lead, develop, and performance-manage operational teams across UK terminalsCoordinate vessel discharge operations with agents, stevedores, and depot teamsManage maintenance activities and respond to plant breakdowns, adjusting plans as requiredMaintain accurate operational records including stock levels, dispatches, and order trackingConduct regular stock audits and resolve discrepancies in coordination with financeAdjust staffing levels, shifts, and schedules to meet operational demandManage operational budgets across terminals, logistics, and staffingMonitor and control expenditure against approved budgets, identifying cost-saving opportunitiesSupport forecasting, financial planning, and variance analysis with the Finance teamProvide out-of-hours operational support when required Health, Safety & Environmental
Ensure full compliance with UK legislation including COSHH, PUWER, LOLER, and applicable environmental regulationsDrive a proactive safety culture across employees, contractors, and visitorsEnsure risk assessments, method statements, and safe systems of work are current and effectively appliedOversee incident, near-miss, and hazard reporting with thorough investigation and corrective actionsDeliver and coordinate HSE training, inductions, and competency programmes including manual handling, working at height, and first aidEnsure contractor compliance with site safety rules and company standardsSupport internal and external HSE audits and inspectionsMaintain safe vehicle movement, loading/unloading, and material handling systems across all terminals What You'll Bring
NEBOSH General Certificate (Level 3) or equivalent Health & Safety qualificationMechanical or electrical engineering qualificationProven experience in a senior management or operational leadership roleStrong background in logistics, shipping, or terminal/depot operationsExperience managing teams and coordinating complex staffing requirementsSound knowledge of UK Health & Safety legislation and regulatory requirementsProficiency in Microsoft Office and Google SheetsExperience with operational management systems such as Opera, XRL, or similarStrong analytical and reporting skillsExcellent communication and interpersonal skillsFull UK driving licence What We're Looking For
You'll be highly organised, detail-oriented, and comfortable working across operational, financial, and safety disciplines. You can write clearly, manage competing priorities, and bring a calm, solutions-focused approach to fast-moving environments. You're equally comfortable leading a team as you are working independently, and you take ownership of your responsibilities.
Additional Information
The role requires regular travel between UK terminal sites and occasional international travel, including to Spain. Candidates must hold a full UK driving licence.
