Senior Clinical Coder - Home BasedAn exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic, motivated and experienced Clinical Coder to join our established Clinical Coding Department as a Senior Clinical Coder. This home-based role offers the opportunity to work as part of a supportive and knowledgeable team, contributing to the delivery of high-quality coded clinical data within a busy acute healthcare environment.
We are seeking an individual who is confident working in a fast-paced department and able to adapt to the demands of a constantly evolving NHS environment. The successful applicant will be a qualified and experienced Clinical Coder who holds the National Clinical Coding Qualification, giving them Accredited Clinical Coder status. Experienced Clinical Coders who are currently working towards Accredited Clinical Coder status may also be considered for appointment at Band 4, with progression to Band 5 following successful completion of the National Clinical Coding Qualification.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will demonstrate a high level of clinical coding knowledge and accuracy, with excellent attention to detail and a methodical approach to their work. You will be able to manage competing priorities, work effectively under pressure and contribute positively as part of a team working to tight deadlines. A sound understanding of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology is essential, alongside strong IT and communication skills. The role may involve liaison with clinicians to clarify clinical information and support accurate coding.
Previous NHS experience within an acute hospital setting would be desirable, although not essential. Experience of Patient Administration Systems would also be advantageous. Previous clerical experience, accurate keyboard skills and a good working knowledge of IT software packages are essential.

Person Specification
EDUCATION, QUALIFICATIONS & TRAINING Essential
Educated to GCSE or equivalent to include English & Maths Accredited Clinical Coder (ACC) having passed the National Clinical Coding qualification Evidence of CPD and attendance at clinical coding refresher courses Sound basic knowledge of anatomy and physiology and the disease process
Desirable
Completed AMSPAR medical terminology course or evidence of a good understanding of medical terminology Completion of ECDL or evidence of knowledge of IT, NHS PAS and Microsoft software products
EXPERIENCE Essential
Sound clinical coding experience within the NHS across a range of specialties Sound experience of use of clinical coding standards and conventions in both ICD 10 and OPCS4.
SKILLS, ABILITIES & KNOWLEDGE Essential
Ability to prioritise own work in line with trust objectives Ability to work under pressure to achieve department targets Understanding of the requirement and an ability to code accurately with an eye for detail even when working to tight deadlines Ability to concentrate and retain knowledge in a busy open office environment Well organised, methodical worker, able to organise and plan work daily and to reprioritise as required Willing and able to work as part of a team working to a common goal Ability to identify and resource all available information to analyse and extract relevant information for clinical coding of the highest standard. Good interpersonal skills with ability to communicate at all levels and willing to share knowledge and mentor other team members
Desirable
