Job summary

St Teresa's Hospice is seeking an experienced and proactive Estates & Facilities Manager to lead the safe, effective, and compliant management of our buildings, grounds, and equipment on an interim cover basis.

This is a pivotal role ensuring our hospice environment remains safe, welcoming, and fit for purpose for patients, families, staff, and volunteers.

Location: Onsite at St Teresa's Hospice, The Woodlands, Woodland Road, Darlington, DL3 7UA

Hours: 20-25 hours per week considered, over Monday to Friday 09:00-17:00, with flexible working available via our flexi-time scheme.

Interim cover post with expected duration of at least 4 months.

St Teresa's Hospice Band 6: £38,087 - £44,195 per annum, pro rata.

A full UK driving licence and ability to travel for work are essential.

Main duties of the job

We are a forward thinking, inclusive registered Charity with Inpatient, Outpatient and Hospice at Home services, and a chain of charity retail shops, providing care and support to palliative patients and their families in their own homes and at St Teresa's Hospice.

As Interim Estates & Facilities Manager, you will:

Lead the management of all hospice premises, including maintenance, safety, and security Oversee planned and reactive maintenance programmes Manage waste, utilities, fleet vehicles, and contractor services Coordinate Health & Safety across the organisation, ensuring full compliance with legislation Lead risk assessments, audits, and statutory testing (e.g. fire, PAT, emergency lighting) Manage the outsourced IT provider to ensure systems and communications operate effectively Oversee procurement of equipment, services, and facilities contracts in collaboration with Finance Deliver minor estates projects and improvements Line manage maintenance staff and oversee external contractors

You may also be required to provide out-of-hours support where necessary.

Successful applicants require a Standard DBS disclosure; expense met by St Teresa's Hospice.

To lead the safe, compliant and effective management of all hospice premises and grounds, whether owned or leased, ensuring they remain fit for purpose at all times.

To oversee ICT service delivery by working with the external IT provider to ensure systems, devices and communications services support organisational needs.

To coordinate organisational Health & Safety arrangements, ensuring relevant responsibilities, compliance activities and training are implemented across the hospice.

To support effective procurement of utilities, equipment, facilities services and relevant contracts, working closely with the Finance Manager.

Person Specification

Experience Essential

Significant professional experience in operations and facilities management, including premises management, Health & Safety or similar responsibilities, and implementation of fault reporting, risk assessment and action planning Experience in a managerial/supervisory/team leading role

Desirable

Experience of undertaking audits Experience of working in a palliative care or other healthcare setting in a facilities management or similar capacity Experience of working in a charity or other not-for-profit setting

Qualifications Essential

NEBOSH National General Certificate in Occupational Health & Safety

Desirable

NEBOSH National Certificate in Fire Safety and Risk Management Accredited as an appointed person for medical gas piped systems Management and leadership qualification (or evidence of transferable training)

Knowledge and driving Essential

In-depth knowledge of legislation relevant to facilities management, including Health & Safety legislation and waste management Good working knowledge of IT and communications systems Able to drive for work with full UK driving licence Able to travel for work using own transport (business use insurance to be arranged by worker at their expense)
