Job summary

Applications are invited for the post of Senior Registrar (MT05) in Breast and Oncoplastics post, which is a fixed-term post for 12 months.

This is a whole / part time post offering an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated Medic to join a dynamic, rapidly expanding team delivering multidisciplinary acute care in Mersey and West Lancashire Teaching Hospitals.

The successful candidate will work within the Burney Breast Unit with the Breast Surgery team and will have the opportunity to also work with the Plastic Surgery team if they so wish in their SPA session.

This post is intended for an experienced trainee or equivalent doctor with advanced breast and oncoplastic skills who is able to work with a high degree of clinical autonomy within an appropriate consultant-led framework.

The post holder will have greater clinical experience, increased operative responsibility, and a high level of independent decision-making.

Main duties of the job

Support elective service: assist in diagnostic, results/follow-up clinics and breast theatre lists; progress to independent practice after induction. MDT leadership: participate in Breast Screening and Main Oncology MDTs; manage Oncoplastic MDT and attend monthly DIEP planning MDT.

Senior clinical care: assess, plan and deliver breast and oncoplastic treatment under consultant supervision, including advanced operative duties.

Supervision: provide senior support to junior doctors and multidisciplinary team members.

Service development: contribute to audit, research, teaching, leadership and service improvement.

Peri-operative and admin duties: support F1/CT1 and nursing teams, manage occasional in-hours complications, attend rota/audit meetings, and facilitate cross-site working.

We provide the Mersey Regional Burns & Plastic Surgery Unit at Whiston Hospital and the Spinal Injuries Unit at Southport Hospital to more than 4 million people across the whole of Merseyside, West Lancashire, Cheshire, Isle of Man and North Wales.

Fit to practise safely and is aware of own training needs Applicant to have demonstrable skills in written and spoken English to enable effective communicate about medical topics with patients and colleagues 24 months of Specialist Breast or Plastic Surgery Training at ST5-8 level Ability to apply sound clinical knowledge and judgement to problems Ability to prioritise clinical need Ability to maximise safety and minimise risk Recognition of and ability to undertake initial management of acutely ill patient Basic life support training within the last 12 months Competency in: oBreast new patient assessment oSimple mastectomy, palpable and image guided wide local excision, and sentinel lymph node biopsy as demonstrated by work-based assessment evidence and logbook
