About this role

Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Consultant in Surgical Gynaecological Oncology to join a dynamic and high-performing regional cancer centre serving South East Wales.

Based at the University Hospital of Wales, you will work within a well-established tertiary referral service delivering specialist care for complex gynaecological malignancies alongside secondary care provision for Cardiff and the Vale. The department manages over 450 cancer surgeries annually and reviews more than 800 patients through its multidisciplinary team (MDT), offering exposure to a broad and complex case mix. The service delivers advanced and innovative surgical care, including minimally invasive and robotic surgery, sentinel lymph node mapping, ultra-radical cytoreductive surgery and HIPEC, supported by close collaboration with colorectal, urology and reconstructive teams. Strong links with Velindre Cancer Centre ensure fully integrated oncology pathways.

Main duties of the job

You will join a highly skilled multidisciplinary team with a strong commitment to patient-centred care, prehabilitation and enhanced recovery, alongside active involvement in teaching, training and service development. Person Specification

Qualifications Essential

oFull GMC / GDC registration with a licence to practise oOn Specialist Register for specialty / Specialty Registrar with CCT / CESR (Combined Programme) due within 6 months of interview date oSubspecialist accreditation in Gynaeoncology (or projected to complete within 6 months)

Experience Essential

oEvidence of training and experience in managing patients with gynaecological cancer Evidence of advanced level of surgical skill in gynaecological cancer surgery

Skills Essential

oEvidence of effective team and multidisciplinary working oSelf-motivated and flexible approach to work

Clinical Governance Essential

oEvidence of participation in clinical audit and understanding role of audit in improving medical practice oUnderstanding of clinical risk management and clinical governance oEvidence of proactive engagement with appraisal and revalidation. (or equivalent)

Research Essential

oAbility to critically appraise research.

Teaching Essential

oEvidence of teaching medical / dental students and junior doctors / dentists
