Job summary
We are seeking a friendly, organised and patient- focused Receptionist to join our busy and supportive team at Hatherton Medical Centre, part of Umbrella Medical in Walsall.
This is a varied and rewarding front-line role where you will be the first point of contact for patients, providing a welcoming and professional service both face-to-face and over the telephone. You will play a key role in supporting the smooth day-to-day running of the practice, working closely with clinicians and colleagues to deliver high-quality patient care.
The role requires excellent communication and interpersonal skills, along with the ability to remain calm and professional in a busy environment. You will need to be adaptable, reliable, and able to work both independently and as part of a team.
We are looking for the right candidates to work up to 40 hours per week, with working hours between 07:15 and 18:30, Monday to Friday. Flexibility is essential to meet the needs of the service, including a combination of early starts and late finishes. Although you will predominantly be based at our Hatherton Medical Centre site, you may be asked to cover at any of the Umbrella Practices for training & development or to cover in times of sickness or annual leave.

Patient & Reception Duties
Welcoming patients at the front desk Answering and directing telephone calls Booking and managing appointments Handling patient queries in a professional, caring manner Administration Duties
Processing prescriptions and requests Scanning and filing documents Maintaining accurate patient records Entering data onto clinical systems (EMIS web experience an advantage) Team Support

Qualifications Essential
English Language GCSE (Grade C or above) or equivalent
Experience Essential
Demonstrate experience of dealing with the public both face to face and over the telephone Basic understanding of general office procedures (e.g. record keeping, filing)
Desirable
Experience of working in General Practice or the NHS Experience of using a clinical system
Knowledge & Skills Essential
Effective written communication skills Effective verbal communication skills, both face to face and on the telephone Effective listening skills Keyboard skills sufficient to produce data and information using packages such as Microsoft Word & Outlook
