Job summary

Band 6 Senior Staff Nurse (West Ward - Haematology)

West ward is a Haematology day unit that operates Mondays-Fridays 08:00-18:00 excluding bank holidays.

The department is looking for an enthusiastic, forward-thinking, and motivated Chemotherapy trained nurse to join our team as a Band 6 Senior Staff Nurse.

The skilled practitioner will be responsible for delivering patient-focused programmes of care that address the complex and changing health and well-being needs of patients with haematology-related conditions.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will provide high quality essential care to patients with haematology conditions in a caring, compassionate and sensitive manner.

The post holder will:

Provide high-quality clinical practice. Be proactive in clinical decision making, underpinned by theoretical and practical knowledge and be able to demonstrate improved patient care outcomes. Administer Chemotherapy treatment to Haematology patients. Take designated responsibility for discrete areas of operational management/clinical practice. Support change, monitor and improve standards through supervision, evidence-based practice, clinical audit, research, and education. To promote and demonstrate best practice by integrating evidence into practice. Undertake holistic assessment of patients and carers' needs. This will involve planning, implementing, and evaluating care delivery in response to changing healthcare needs. Demonstrate sound knowledge in relation to patterns of Haematology service, markers of condition progression and the range of treatment available at each stage of the condition.

Person Specification

Experience Essential

Significant post qualification experience with knowledge in Haematology/cancer care Demonstrates ability to place patient and family at centre of care

Desirable

Experience of involvement in successful change management Ability to work unsupervised and on own initiative, as well as part of a multidisciplinary team

Qualifications Essential

Registered Nurse Systemic Anti-Cancer Therapy (SACT) Trained or evidence of undertaking course

Desirable

Specialist post-graduate education / Qualifications, or training relevant to Haematology Other training relevant to area of clinical practice PICC line care
