About this role

Job summary

An exciting opportunity to has arisen for experienced Band 5 nurse to join ward leadership teams based at Highgate West Mental Health Centre across the Acute and PICU wards.

There is some consideration for this role, in the future, to become a rotational post across the different inpatient settings. The successful candidate will need to be confident, and competent, in working across male, female and PICU services.

We are looking to recruit compassionate, qualified, creative and motivated nurses to help deliver outstanding, and individualised, patient care.

The successful candidate will be provided with a clear development and support plan to ensure you maximise your learning within the role and offer you exposure to ward leadership and learning opportunities .

As a Charge Nurse, the post holder will be committed to working with trauma informed care models/approaches .

Please note you must be able to work a combination of both day and night shifts for this role, be able to undertake PMVA and ILS training and associated duties.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will support the management of ward/unit and will deputise for the Ward/Unit Manager as required.

S/he will carry out allocated duties at the direction of the Ward/Unit Manager and provide clinical supervision and support to an identified staff group.

S/he will regularly take charge of the ward and manage the team in collaboration with the Ward Manager. The post holder will work within a multi-disciplinary team framework in the delivery of care to patients.

The post holder will be responsible for adhering to the roles, responsibilities and tasks identified by the Ward Manager and Modern Matron to complete in Ward Manager absence.

S/he will act as a primary/associate nurse for a group of patients, assessing, planning, delivering and evaluating care. As a primary/associate nurse the post holder will promote person-centred care and ensure that all care plans reflect this approach.

S/he will also be expected to teach and supervise others including newly qualified and unqualified staff. The post holder will be expected to support the Ward Manager to implement and sustain a culture of learning, safety and continuous learning.

Person Specification

Qualifications Essential

1. RMN or equivalent with post registration experience at staff nurse level in an acute/ PICU setting. Training in managing violence and aggression including PMVA training 3. Evidence of relevant ongoing professional development

Skills/Abilities Essential

1. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. 2. Demonstrates an ability to successfully manage patients exhibiting disturbed behaviour. 3. Able and willing to undertake training in managing violence and aggression including PMVA training 4. Demonstrates an ability to manage and motivate staff at all levels. 5. Evidence of being able to support complaint management

Experience/Knowledge Essential

1. Has an understanding of the physical health needs of people with mental illness. 2. Has a detailed knowledge of the MHA, the mental capacity act, any any other relevant policy and legislation. 3. Demonstrates a knowledge of de-escalation skills

Desirable

1. Experience in teaching and supporting junior staff members. 2. Evidence of report or complaint response writing
