Consultant in Emergency Medicine - Basildon Hospital
We are seeking a full-time Consultant in Emergency Medicine to join our dynamic and forward-thinking team at Basildon Hospital, part of Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust.
This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the development and delivery of high-quality adult and paediatric emergency care, supporting the ongoing enhancement of clinical pathways and services within a busy Emergency Department.
Based at Basildon Hospital, you will work as part of an established and supportive consultant body within a 16-consultant on-call rota. The department benefits from strong senior presence, with on-site consultant cover from 8am-11pm on weekdays and 9am-10pm at weekends.
We welcome applications from experienced Emergency Medicine Consultants or fellowship-trained senior trainees seeking their first consultant role. Candidates must hold full GMC registration or be eligible for registration, with appropriate training in Emergency Medicine.
You will be expected to adopt a flexible approach to job planning to meet service needs, while contributing to clinical leadership, service development, and the delivery of safe, high-quality patient care.

Main duties of the job
Gain broad clinical experience in a busy district general hospital while developing specialist clinical and non-clinical interests (e.g. audit, research) Contribute with consultants to meeting the evolving demands of the NHS Emergency Care Agenda Support innovation and redesign of emergency services, with a focus on paediatric emergency care development Play a strategic role in shaping high-quality, sustainable clinical services across the Essex STP region Demonstrate strong commitment to patient safety, clinical governance, and continuous improvement of patient experience

Person Specification
Experience Essential
Evidence of thorough and broad training and experience in the specialty. Demonstrates good knowledge of the structures and culture of the NHS, roles, responsibilities and relationships across the MDT and the multi-professional team Knowledge and experience of supervising undergraduates, junior doctors and other staff
Desirable
Experience within Paediatrics at SPR/ Specialty doctor level Active Involvement in Undergraduate, GP and Paramedical Education.
Qualifications Essential
MBBS or Equivalent FRCEM or equivalent Entry on GMC Specialist Register; eligible for entry on Register or within six months of receipt of Certificate of Completion of training (CCT) at time of interview

Post-graduate qualification - MSc, PhD, MD etc
Personal and People Development Essential
