About this role

Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Registered Nurse Associate to join the Specialist Mental Health Team for Older People in Tameside.

This is a multi-disciplinary team who work in the secondary care community mental health services in Tameside to support older people who are experiencing both functional and organic mental health problems.

Main duties of the job

To monitor the effects and side effects of Clozapine medication in the community, including regular, planned blood tests, with guidance from relevant professionals, such as the nursing team, consultants and pharmacists. To administer intramuscular injections and monitor the effects of these, with the knowledge of contraindications and side effects, being able to relay accurate information to patients in a format that they are able to understand in accordance with trust policies. To undertake venepuncture in the context of physical health monitoring, after relevant training and ongoing guidance. To undertake physical health checks, interpret results and respond to and report concerns appropriately. To carry out ECG monitoring as required and report the results to the multi-disciplinary team. Attend MDT reviews and contribute to patient care plans. Keep timely, relevant and accurate documentation on our Paris record system.

Person Specification

Education / Qualifications Essential

Registered Nurse Associate with Foundation Degree GCSE's Grade C/Grade 4-9 or above in Math's and English Language or equivalent

Experience Essential

Experience of working with individuals with mental health needs Experience of working with individuals in distress

Desirable

Previous experience of working in Clozapine or Depot Clinics

Knowledge Essential

Ability to demonstrate working knowledge of the Mental Health Act, and the Mental Capacity Act Understanding of mental health issues and how these impact on individuals. Knowledge of physical health observations and their importance.

Desirable

Knowledge of the implications on the physical health of people living with SMI

Skills and Abilities Essential

Ability to communicate effectively (written, verbal and non-verbal communication) with patients/relatives and carers and all members of the multi-disciplinary team. Ability to support, supervise, assess and act as a role model to nursing associate students, other learners and health care support workers, as required Ability to organise and prioritise own delegated workload Ability to act calmly in emergencies and to respond in a professional manner to stressful and challenging behaviour Ability to plan and implement care for individuals, as appropriate Good IT Skills
