Job summary

Woodgrange Medical Practice is a CQC Outstanding rated practice looking for a HCA. We are a well organised, efficient Practice, with a list size of over 16000 and growing. We are based in a spacious converted bank, which has had several extensions to provide a comfortable and modern clinical environment. There are excellent transport links and we are close to the Olympic Park and Westfield shopping Centre.

We have a strong ethos of teaching and training and you will be welcomed into our large Primary Care team of 13 Doctors, GPSi in

Dermatology/surgery, 2 Advanced Nurse Practitioners, 2 Practice Nurses , 3 HCAs, Diabetic Nurse Specialist, 3 Pharmacists and you will instantly become a valued member of the team.

Every clinical and administrative member of staff is encouraged to develop professionally. The doctors have been supported and encouraged to specialise; each has their own interest e.g. Substance Misuse, Mental Health, Dermatology, Minor surgery, Paediatrics and Womens health.

Main duties of the job

Carry out routine clinical observations, including blood pressure, pulse, temperature, height, weight, and BMI measurements. Perform phlebotomy (blood taking) where trained and competent. Undertake NHS health checks and support chronic disease monitoring clinics. Carry out ECGs, urine testing, and simple wound care as directed. Prepare and maintain clinical rooms and equipment. Record accurate patient information using the practice clinical system. Promote patient dignity, confidentiality, and safeguarding principles. Assist with Minor Surgery ClinicsSupport practice nurses and GPs in delivering safe, effective, and person-centred care.

Job description Job responsibilities Clinical Duties

Measure and record patient observations, including blood pressure, pulse, temperature, height, weight, and BMI.

Perform phlebotomy (blood taking) where trained and competent.

Carry out ECGs, urine testing, and other routine clinical procedures as directed.

Assist with NHS Health Checks and health promotion activities.

Support patients attending chronic disease management clinics.

Undertake simple wound care and dressings as delegated by the nursing team.

Prepare patients for examinations and treatments.

Ensure clinical equipment is cleaned, maintained, and ready for use. Assist with Minor Surgery Clinics Patient Care

Provide compassionate, person-centred care to patients.

Promote patient dignity, privacy, and independence.

Communicate effectively with patients, carers, and colleagues.

Recognise and report any concerns regarding a patient's health or wellbeing to the appropriate clinician.

Administrative Duties

Maintain accurate and timely patient records using the practice clinical system.

Manage stock levels and order clinical supplies as required.

Prepare consulting and treatment rooms.

Support the smooth running of clinics and appointments.

Infection Prevention and Health & Safety

Follow infection prevention and control policies and procedures.

Maintain a clean, safe, and hygienic clinical environment.

Adhere to health and safety regulations and report any incidents or hazards.

Person Specification

Qualifications Essential

Essential Experience working in a healthcare, care home, or community care setting. Good communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to work effectively within a team. Understanding of confidentiality and data protection. Basic IT skills.

Desirable

Desirable Care Certificate. NVQ/QCF Level 2 or 3 in Health and Social Care. Experience in primary care or GP practice settings. Training in phlebotomy, ECGs, wound care, or NHS Health Checks. Personal Qualities Compassionate and caring. Professional and reliable. Flexible and adaptable. Able to remain calm under pressure. Committed to delivering high-quality patient care.
