Job summary

Applications are invited for the post of Clinical Research Fellow in Cutaneous Lymphoma within the Department of Dermatology. This post provides an exceptional opportunity for a motivated clinician with a strong interest in dermatological oncology to gain advanced training in clinical and translational research within a leading national cutaneous lymphoma service.

The successful candidate will be working under the supervision of Professor Julia Scarisbrick for a one-year fellowship, with opportunity to extend for a second year and will receive structured supervision and training in:

*Clinical assessment and multidisciplinary management of cutaneous lymphomas

*Clinical trial design and conduct

*Translational Dermatology/CTCL research

*Research methodology and scientific dissemination

The postholder will contribute to the dynamic programme of clinical trials, translational biomarker research, and prospective observational studies in cutaneous lymphoma.

The post is fully on site based at Queen Elizabeth Hospital, with the potential for remote working subject to supervisor approval.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be actively involved in clinical trials, translational and academic research as well as participating in the multi-disciplinary cutaneous lymphoma clinical activities. This will include:

1.Undertaking both clinical and translational research projects in cutaneous lymphoma, including studies focused on prognostic markers, disease biology and treatment response. This includes the PROspective Cutaneous Lymphoma International Prognostic Index (PROCLIPI) study, for which UHB co-leads with U of Stanford.

2.Contributing to the provision of required medical support for patients participating in interventional and non-interventional clinical trials/studies (Phase I-III).

3.Ensuring compliance with Good Clinical Practice (GCP), Trust research governance, Medicines for Human Use and regulatory frameworks.

4.Contribute to the ongoing development, efficiency and operational functioning of the research team alongside providing support to the wider research team.

5.Analyse and interpret clinical datasets and contribute to the preparation of scientific manuscripts for peer-reviewed journal and conference presentations.

6.There will also be opportunities to gain clinical experience in outpatient setting

Job description Job responsibilities

The research component of this post will comprise working as part of the Cutaneous Lymphoma Service under the direction of Professor Julia Scarisbrick at University Hospitals Birmingham and University of Birmingham. You will receive comprehensive training in the clinical assessment of patients with early and advanced stage cutaneous lymphoma including competently assessing response criteria. You will participate in all aspects of clinical research including NIHR Portfolio Clinical Trials. The main focus of the clinical and translational research in CTCL include both observational prospective trials to examine prognostic features and translational research projects to determine prognostic biomarkers for treatment responsiveness using disease modifying therapies. Complementary laboratory-based research may be arranged through one of the Unit's internal or external collaborators. There will also be opportunities to present at national and international meetings.

The clinical component of this job will include participation in the fortnightly cutaneous lymphoma MDT meeting and opportunity to participate in skin lymphoma clinic.

The post holder will be encouraged to develop their own research interest/project and to write grant applications to secure additional external funding for such a project or other research projects conducted in the Unit. There will also be opportunities to present at national and international meetings.

Person Specification

Qualifications Essential

*Full GMC Registration with licence to practice *Primary Medical Qualification (MBBS or equivalent) *Completion of UK Foundation programme (or equivalent)

Desirable

*Postgraduate qualification or training in Dermatology *MRCP (UK) or equivalent postgraduate qualification *Formal qualification/teaching in statistics and/or epidemiology

Experience Essential

*Strong interest in academic medicine and clinical research *Understanding of research methodology, study design and clinical trials *Previous clinical experience in Dermatology/Oncology/Haematology and/or Cutaneous Lymphoma

Desirable

*Experience in cutaneous lymphomas *Evidence of prior peer-reviewed publications or conference presentations *Experience in clinical trials *Experience in translational or lab-based research

*Evidence of initiative, curiosity and the ability to drive projects forward *Collaborative mindset and ability to work within a multidisciplinary team *Excellent written and verbal communication
