About You

Registered with the HCPC and RCSLT. Experienced in managing dysphagia and communication needs within Head and Neck/Oncology or acute settings. Driven by clinical excellence, innovation, and a passion for collaborative, patient-centred care.

Main duties of the job

As a band 6 practitioner, you will use your clinical skills to manage complex communication and dysphagia issues relating to Head and Neck cancer, and to develop your clinical skills with this caseload. You will seamlessly support patients across several key clinical environments:

Radiotherapy Clinics: Provide proactive, vital support during acute cancer treatments. Outpatient Appointments: Deliver ongoing rehabilitation and evidence-based interventions. Surgical and Oncolgy In patients: Assessment of swallowing and support with communication post Head and Neck surgery and for patients who are admitted as part of their Oncology treatment.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Excellence: Assess, diagnose, and treat complex communication and swallowing disorders using advanced clinical reasoning. Empowerment & Education: Provide high-quality training and support to patients, carers, and wider healthcare professionals. Team Growth: Supervise and nurture junior clinicians, assistants, and students to build future talent.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Qualifications Essential

Recognised qualification degree / equivalent in S< HCPC registered Able to demonstrate continuing professional development e.g. up to date, relevant CPD portfolio

Desirable

Membership of appropriate clinical network group Other professional or academic qualification which relates to clinical practice Accredited Practice Placement Educator Certificate

Experience Essential

A range of clinical experience across Adult SLT services Delegation to non-registered staff Experience in service development / improvement Contributing to Student training

Delegation to registered staff Experience of leading multidisciplinary / multiprofessional teams Delivering Practice Supervision Welsh / English therapy provision

Knowledge and Skills Essential
