Stagenhoe is a Brainkind specialist neurological care centre based in Hertfordshire, caring for people aged 18 and over a range of neurological conditions. At Stagenhoe, we provide the care people need to optimise their health and wellbeing, maximise their independence and support their emotional and social needs.

Our assessment centres, rehabilitation units and hospitals use expert neurorehabilitation to support and help improve the lives of people with a neurological condition or brain injury.

Main duties of the job

MAIN PURPOSE:

To manage a team of registered nurses and healthcare assistants within a specialist care environment ensuring the effective assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of high standards of holistic care for an identified group of service users.

To contribute to the continuing development of nursing care and services offered to the service users and the smooth running of the Service through the acceptance of agreed additional responsibilities.

Job description Job responsibilities

MAIN TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

In consultation with the Head of Care, assess potential service users in liaison with Health and/or Social Services commissioners. Ensure that all service users (or when they are not able, relatives) are given the opportunity to participate fully in the care planning process Responsible for ensuring adequate and appropriate daily staff cover by planning and effective duty rota and participating in the provision of out-of-hours clinical support. Responsible to maintain effective communication and liaison with other departments in the Service and Brainkind To liaise and communicate with other health and social care professionals in Brainkind and outside agencies in the planning and delivery of service user care, including junior doctors on placement To understand and apply a legal policy that supports the identification of vulnerable adults, being aware of statutory vulnerable adult health procedure and local guidance. Furthermore, to assess the impact of policy implementation on care delivery Responsible to ensure all clinical colleagues (including self) receive formal documented supervision / clinical supervision in line with Brainkind professional and statutory requirements To participate in the annual audit programme, setting quality standards and monitoring the quality of care through clinical audit To promote and demonstrate the highest clinical standards and assess through monitoring competencies To support the process of collecting clinical data for the monthly monitoring process To manage and assess risk within the area of responsibility, ensuring adequate measures are in place to protect colleagues and service users To provide an educational role to service users, carers, families and colleagues in an environment that facilitates learning. Act as a role model and share their own experience and knowledge informally and formally. Actively encourage everyone to learn from each other and from external good practice Facilitating the safe and smooth running of the Service, the post holder is expected to maintain a safe working environment, maintain service user confidentiality, and occasionally take on reasonable additional tasks

Person Specification

Qualifications Essential

ABOUT YOU: A Registered Nurse with post-registration experience in the clinical field Evidence of continued professional development Proven experience of leading and managing clinical teams Experience of managing a process of change and supporting people through that change Knowledge of best clinical practice for client group Working knowledge of current legislation within the healthcare sector Proven skills in leading, building and influencing a team in a clinical setting Demonstrable experience of practising in a self-directed and highly motivated way Effective verbal and written communication skills, including an ability to communicate difficult messages to service users and their families Excellent interpersonal skills Negotiation and conflict management skills An ability to provide teaching and mentorship in a clinical setting Able to prioritise workload and manage competing priorities An ability to manage and participate in the performance management process Competent IT skills and able to use web-based tools
