Ward Administrator (Band 2)
Location: Whiston HospitalHours: Various part-time posts (see details below)
We are looking to recruit enthusiastic and motivated Ward Administrators to join our team at Whiston Hospital. This is a key front-facing role, providing high-quality administrative support to help ensure the smooth day-to-day running of busy clinical wards.
You will be the first point of contact for patients, relatives, and visitors, ensuring a professional and welcoming service at all times.
Available Posts
Ward 3A: 16.5 hours per week Monday 8:00-16:00 Tuesday 8:00-12:30 Wednesday 8:00-12:30 Ward 4E / ITU: 2 x 18.75 hours per week Post 1: Monday & Tuesday 8:00-16:00, Wednesday 8:00-11:45 Post 2: Wednesday 12:15-16:00, Thursday & Friday 8:00-16:00 Ward 3E (Gynaecology): 31 hours per week Monday 8:00-15:00 Tuesday-Friday 8:00-14:00 Please note: these working patterns are fixed to meet service needs. Applicants will be asked at interview which post(s) they wish to be considered for.
The JD & PS are currently under AfC review and are subject to change.
Main duties of the job

Meet and greet patients and visitors to the ward Answer telephone queries and liaise with patients and relatives Book and request patient appointments and discharge arrangements Maintain accurate patient records and ensure data quality compliance Return and manage case notes and ward documentation Ensure ward activity and appointments are recorded correctly About You
You will:
Have good IT and administrative skills, including experience of using patient systems or similar Demonstrate excellent communication and customer service skills Be organised, reliable, and able to prioritise workload effectively Work well as part of a multidisciplinary team and use your own initiative Previous NHS or clerical experience is desirable but not essential.

We provide the Mersey Regional Burns & Plastic Surgery Unit at Whiston Hospital and the Spinal Injuries Unit at Southport Hospital to more than 4 million people across the whole of Merseyside, West Lancashire, Cheshire, Isle of Man and North Wales.

Book outpatient appointments for patientsResolve patients, staff and visitors problems adopting a courteous manner at all timesWelcome patients to come into the ward/area and keep them updated on bed availabilityChase HRS (Health Record Supplements) for all inpatients and ward attendersEnsure any ward attender or outpatient activity is accurately recorded on the PAS system
Answer telephone calls and liaise with patients and relatives regarding admission, discharge and transferDeliver and collect patients and staff mail within the wardEnsure adequate stationery is ordered in a timely manner and stored appropriately
