This is a job advertisement for a Locum Consultant in Anaesthesia. The job has arisen due to recent expansion of services.
Main duties of the job
There is a dedicated medical emergency team which includes the medical and anaesthetic registrar and whose responsibility is to review deteriorating patients on the wards. A Hospital at Night team is in operation in the hospital. Marthas Law is being rolled out across the trust as part of NHS Englands Patient Safety programme for 2024/2025.
A monthly M+M is run by the critical care department where all patient mortality cases are reviewed. There is a weekly MDT meeting where complexes cases are discussed by the whole team.
There are exciting plans within the Division to build a new, 15 bedded state-of-the-art Critical Care Unit within the next two years, to respond to the raising demand of our local community.

Job description Job responsibilities
The Trust conducts surgical services over two main sites: Darent Valley Hospital (DVH) Dartford, and Queen Marys Hospital (QMS) Sidcup. We have a combined 13 theatres over the two sites, with surgical specialties including orthopaedics, urology, general surgery, ENT and gynaecology. There is an interest in robotic colorectal and gynaecological surgery and there is a dedicated state-of-the-art theatre for this purpose.
The successful candidate will cover anaesthetic lists at Darent Valley Hospital, Dartford and Queen Marys Hospital, Sidcup. These lists include specialities like Gen Surgery, Major Colorectal, Urology, Gynaecology, ENT, Orthopaedics/Trauma and Obstetrics.
Person Specification
Qualifications Essential
MBBS or equivalent FRCA or equivalent Licence to practice and full registration with GMC CCT / CESR in Anaesthesia or or demonstrable equivalent experience of training and practice, will obtain this within 6 months of starting in post. This may be extendable to a further 6 month if satisfactory progress is demonstrated.
Desirable
Experience in any anaesthetic specialty sub interests. Name on Specialist Register on date of taking up appointment.
Training and experience Essential
Ability to do a wide range of anaesthetic lists including obstetrics and paediatrics. Demonstration of commitment to Anaesthesia such as relevant audits, publications, introduction of guidelines, relevant courses etc.

Additional training qualifications
Administration Essential
Experience of organisation and running of Theatres in a busy DGH anaesthetic department
Desirable
Familiar with current structure of the National Health Service and conversant with recent initiatives and changes.
Teaching Essential
Experience of post-graduate teaching.
Desirable
Certificate course in teaching.Experience as an Educational Supervisor.Teaching nursing staff and other professional groups.
Quality Improvement Projects / Audit Essential
Thorough understanding of principles of QIP / medical audit. Must have undertaken and completed QIP / audit projects
Research and Publications Essential
Able to demonstrate an interest in research.
Desirable
Experience of clinical research culminating in publication. Publication of review articles or case reports. Research Methodology Course
