Job summary

We are looking for an enthusiastic, friendly, professional and experienced Phlebotomist / Healthcare Assistant (HCA)to join our team at Pontesbury and Worthen Medical Practice.

The successful applicant(s) would be working alongside our current clinical team, and will be responsible for the delivery of Phlebotomist/HCA services to our patient population.

The successful candidate (s) must have experience of working in general practice, and be trained up to a high clinical standard within primary care.

Main duties of the job

Working under the direct supervision of the Nursing Team and strictly in accordance with specific practice guidelines and protocols, the Phlebotomist / Healthcare Assistant (HCA) will assist the practice clinical team in the provision and delivery of prescribed programmes of patient care.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Patient health checks ECG recording Phlebotomy Chaperoning duties Dressings (excluding 4 layer bandaging) Removal of sutures Surgical equipment and vaccine re-stocking and stock rotation Preparing and maintaining environments and equipment before, during and after patient care interventions including assisting GPs during the performance of minor operations Assisting in the assessment and surveillance of patients health and well-being, including hypertension monitoring Undertaking specific clinical activities for named patients that have been delegated and taught specifically in relation to that individual Helping to raise awareness of health and well-being and how it can be promoted Assisting with the collection and collation of data on needs related to health and well-being

Pontesbury & Worthen Medical Practice is a developing and growing practice with two sites, situated in the rural villages of Pontesbury and Worthen, just south of Shrewsbury providing medical care for approximately 10500 patients. Job Summary:

Phlebotomist Duties and Responsibilities:

Obtaining patient consent for the collection of a blood samplePerforming venepuncture in accordance with practice protocolsMaintaining accurate patient records on the clinical IT system and ensuring specimens are ready for onward transportation.The correct labelling, packaging and storing of samplesEnsuring samples are sent to the laboratory in a timely mannerWorking collaboratively with the nursing team, seeking guidance when necessary for patient related matersBeing an integral part of the general practice team

HCA Duties and Responsibilities:

Person Specification

Experience Essential

Experience of working in General Practice Experience of communicating effectively with patients/colleagues

Desirable

Experience of working within a busy environment

Qualifications Essential

Good general education NVQ 2/3 or equivalent experience Qualified in performing venepuncture

Knowledge and Skills Essential

Ability to work within a team as well as autonomously Evidence of ability to be able undertake administrative duties Good IT skills Willingness to develop and undergo further training as required Hold a valid driving licence Pleasant & presentable A caring nature A good communicator Sense of humour

Desirable

Experience in the use of practice computer/clinical systems Able to work flexible hours
