The Immunisation Nurse has a responsibility to be an effective member of the Immunisation team working across Children and Family Health Surrey (CFHS) administering immunisations in a variety of community settings including schools. The post holder will promote the mental, physical and emotional health of individuals, families and groups and be aware of the needs of children, families and carers including vulnerable children.
Main duties of the job As a Bank Band 5 Immunisation Nurse, you will be a crucial member of the Immunisation team within HCRG Care Group, working across Children and Family Health Surrey (CFHS) to administer immunisations in schools and community settings. Your responsibility will include promoting the mental, physical, and emotional health of individuals, families, and groups, particularly the needs of vulnerable children. The role offers self-booking bank shifts and access to Wagestream, allowing you to track earned wages and avoid high-interest loans. You will also have knowledge or understanding of partnership working, such as GPs, shared community services and local education authority. The service will be offered within the framework of national and local targets and available resources
Main Responsibilities Assist in the delivery of the school and community immunisation programmes following local policies, PGDs, and SOPs.
Administer vaccines safely, ensuring correct cold chain storage, handling, and accurate documentation.
Prepare, transport, and maintain immunisation equipment and vaccine stocks for sessions.
Act as Lead Nurse when fully competent, supervising and mentoring bank nurses, students, and other team members.
Maintain up-to-date clinical knowledge and participate in professional development, training, and audits.
Communicate effectively with children, young people, families, and multidisciplinary teams, adapting language and approach to individual needs.
Support children and families, addressing anxieties, concerns, or complaints, and act as an advocate where appropriate.
Participate in policy development, service improvement, and implementation of immunisation programmes.
Organise workload independently, ensuring accurate record-keeping, data management, and reporting.
Take appropriate action in safeguarding concerns and adhere to NMC Code of Professional Conduct.
Provide evidence-based advice on immunisations, including side effects, to children, parents, and the public.
Contribute to meetings, working groups, and professional discussions, supporting team communication and cohesion.
Participate in audits, research, and mandatory training; supervise and teach students, junior staff, and carers.
Undertake other duties as required consistent with the role and grade of the post.
Ideal CandidateEssential
Registered Nurse with experience working with children and young people.
Knowledge of NHS issues, clinical governance, and risk management.
Effective written and verbal communication skills.
Able to assess needs and act appropriately, work independently, and manage own time. IT literate and able to work collaboratively within a team.
Desirable
Mentor preparation, ENB 998, or Practice Supervisor/Assessor qualification.
PHE core immunisation training and Skills for Health immunisation modules.
Experience in school nursing, clinical supervision, appraisal, and immunisation delivery.
Teaching skills and ability to be assertive under pressure.
Other requirements:Full UK Driving Licence and access to a car insured for business use.

Qualifications Essential
Essential qualifications include being a Registered Nurse with experience working with children and young people. Applicants must possess effective written and verbal communication skills and the ability to assess needs, work independently, and manage time efficiently. Being IT literate and capable of working collaboratively within a team is required. Desirable qualifications include mentor preparation or qualification, immunisation training, and experience in school nursing and immunisation delivery.
