Bromley Healthcare is currently recruiting for a Bank Band 5 Night Nurse to join our busy and dynamic team. Patient care is at the heart of everything we do, and our work is vital to the community as we strive to prevent unnecessary hospital admissions and support patients to receive care in their own homes whenever possible.

We work closely with our colleagues in the local St Christopher's Hospice, Twilight Nurses, and our daytime District Nursing teams to ensure patients receive seamless, coordinated care.

As a Bank Band 5 Night Nurse, you will work alongside a Healthcare Assistant overnight, visiting patients in the community to provide urgent nursing care, support those approaching the end of life, and help prevent avoidable hospital admissions. This is a rewarding role that offers the opportunity to make a meaningful difference to patients and their families at some of the most important moments of their lives.

Main duties of the job

As a Night Nurse, you will deal with a variety of patients in their own homes. The role will involve, but is not limited to:

Responsible for contributing to the holistic assessment, planning, delivery, and evaluation of patient care. Implementing, monitoring, and maintaining our high standards of care. Re-assessing and re-evaluating programmes of care when needed. Being an active member of the team, sharing best practices whenever possible.

This is a challenging but ultimately rewarding position where you will be supported both within your teams and by regular reflection & professional training.

Shifts will be available on an ad hoc basis, working across the borough of Bromley

Please note that Night Nursing roles are designated essential car users; therefore, applicants should have a current driving licence and access to a vehicle to be considered for this position.

Job description Job responsibilities

Contribute to the safe and effective clinical delivery of the service by undertaking comprehensive assessments and providing high-quality, evidence-based nursing care to patients in their own homes. Triage referrals, assess urgency, and organise visits according to clinical priority to ensure patients receive timely and appropriate care. Work collaboratively with the overnight Healthcare Assistant to deliver urgent nursing interventions, support admission avoidance, and provide compassionate end-of-life care. Develop and maintain positive working relationships with Allied Health Professionals, specialist teams, St Christopher's Hospice, District Nursing teams, and other clinical services across Bromley Healthcare to ensure a coordinated approach to patient care. Communicate effectively with patients, families, carers, and colleagues to support shared decision-making and continuity of care. Contribute to the ongoing development of the service, maintaining professional standards and promoting excellence in patient-centred care.

Person Specification

Qualifications & Professional Essential

Adult Nursing Degree or equivalent qualification NMC registration

Experience Essential

Experience of writing accurate records. Evidence of provision of high standards of clinical care. Community experience

Desirable

Teaching and assessing skills. Care of older people. Knowledge of standard setting/clinical audit.

Specific skills Essential

Good knowledge basic clinical skills including IVs, PEG feeds, wound care and assessment, catheters, medication admin, end of life care. Able to document clinical records/findings correctly, within NMC guidelines. Ability to undertake holistic patient assessments, implement appropriate nursing care and treatment and evaluate outcomes Valid Driving Licence and the use of a vehicle for work purposes and the ability to competently use a 'satnav'.
