Job summary

We are seeking an enthusiastic and dynamic Stroke Physiotherapy Team Lead to join our team. This leadership role involves overseeing the delivery of high-quality care within Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy care across the stroke service at Wexham Park Hospital. With a recent restructure of the stroke services across Frimley Health and implementation of a Stroke Therapies Principal, the successful candidate will have an exciting opportunity to actively contribute to the ongoing development of the service, helping to shape innovative pathways and strengthen collaborative working between therapies including SLT and Dietetics.

Main duties of the job

Team Leadership & Support: Lead and support a cross therapy team, working alongside the Principal Physiotherapist. Foster a collaborative, inclusive, and positive team environment. Clinical Excellence: Provide advanced assessment, clinical diagnosis, and treatment for patients within Stroke, including complex and chronic cases. Operational Effectiveness: Ensure the team operates efficiently, maintaining high standards of patient care in line with hospital policies and clinical guidelines. Service Development: Play an integral role in shaping and implementing local service improvements while contributing to wider departmental and directorate initiatives. Professional Development: Support the growth of team members by facilitating training, mentorship, and continuous professional development. Collaboration: Work closely with the multidisciplinary team (MDT) and key stakeholders to ensure cohesive and patient-centered care. Research & Innovation: Lead evidence-based projects, audits, and research initiatives to influence best practices and continuous service development. Deputy Responsibilities: Provide leadership in the absence of the Principal Physiotherapist and collaborate with the Occupational Therapy (OT) Clinical Specialist to optimise service delivery.

Job description Job responsibilities

Clinical Leadership & Expertise:

Lead advanced patient assessment and treatment, managing acute and chronic complex cases. Oversee caseload prioritisation for both personal and junior staff, ensuring high standards of care. Provide clinical expertise within multidisciplinary teams, contributing to treatment planning and discharge processes. Maintain accurate patient records in line with Trust policies

Service Development & Quality Improvement:

Initiate and implement evidence-based audit and research projects, recommending service improvements. Support the Principal Physiotherapist in enhancing medical team practices and protocols. Contribute to departmental policy updates and represent physiotherapy in cross-functional meetings.

Operational & Risk Management:

Ensure safe and effective physiotherapy practices, adhering to governance, safety policies, and incident reporting procedures. Manage equipment use, training staff in safe operation and adherence to protocols. Participate in recruitment, selection, and performance management processes

Professional Development & Training:

Mentor and supervise junior physiotherapists, providing training and guidance. Organise and contribute to medical in-service training programs. Maintain personal CPD, staying updated on research and best practices.

On-Call & Emergency Cover:

Participate in emergency on-call rota for respiratory care in acute settings. Provide weekend cover on the stroke ward

Person Specification

Qualifications Essential

HCPC registered Degree or Dipolma in Physiotherapy Evidence of relevant post graduate courses/CPD within area of expertise required for job role. E.g. Clinical MSc module, leadership courses.

Desirable

Member of relevant clinical interest group

Skills and knowledge Essential

Specialist level of clinical knowledge and skill. Ability to work within a multidisciplinary team. Excellent communication skills both written and oral. Supervisory and appraisal skills Able to think logically and problem solve Evidence of leading and participating in audit. Computer literate

Desirable

Evidence of leading change within a team. Involvement in Research. Presentation Skills.

Experience Essential

Previous experience in the relevant area at Band 6 within the NHS, demonstrating a broad base of clinical depth and competence. Post graduate experience in the following clinical areas, General Medicine/Elderly Care, Respiratory and Neuro Training and supervision to support all physiotherapy staff and students

Desirable

Previous experience of working as a Band 7 physiotherapist. Previous experience of working in the NHS in an Acute hospital inpatient or outpatient setting. Development of a project or service
