Job summary
An opportunity has arisen to join our team at Colchester Hospital within Ophthalmology as a Clinical Fellow in Cataract Surgery.
This is a full-time clinical and surgical fellowship post for the period of one year (with the possibility to extend for another year as a Glaucoma and Anterior Segment Fellow).At the end of the training period the cataract fellow will have acquired advanced skills to a level where the fellow is able to work as a consultant providing a high quality service.
Main duties of the job
This post is designed to support this service and to ensure that patient waiting times are maintained within target.
The Fellow will be an integral part of Surgical Ophthalmology Service (SOS). The Cataract Fellow will be exposed to and trained in current state-of-the-art advanced diagnostic, medical, and surgical techniques in the management of anterior segment disorders including Leica Ophthalmic Microscope Proveo 8, Alcon Centurion phaco machines, Heidelberg Spectralis OCT and Heidelberg Anterion, Zeiss IOL Master, Ellex Tango Combined YAG and SLT laser.
The fellows are expected to actively undertake research and publish during their fellowship and be involved in education and supervision of junior doctors. In addition, fellows also participate in the emergency department rosters.
