Job summary
The Division of Surgery and Cancer Services would like to invite applications for a Band 3 Medical Secretary within Ophthalmology.
The post will be based at Doncaster Hospital; however there may be a requirement to work on other sites includes Bassetlaw and Mexborough on occasion
This is a permanent, full and part time positions available preference will be discussed at interview. The role will support the Ophthalmology teams to ensure the smooth running of the offices.
The post holders will work as a Medical secretary team to provide effective and efficient support to clinical teams, maintaining robust systems in place for administrative management of patient pathways.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will be responsible for checking, monitoring and progressing all aspects of the patient pathway in line with clinical instruction and in accordance with national and local waiting times, liaising directly with the consultant and delegated members of the consultant team, using information reports to assist
They will have expert knowledge of the various patient pathways which include the 18 weeks Referral to Treatment (RTT) rules and ensure application of this knowledge, promoting best practice amongst peers and offering guidance for clinical teams. They will work closely with other members of the clinical admin teams, Team Leaders and the Data Quality Team to ensure consistent approaches are applied to RTT validation
They will have skills in all areas of administrative functions to enable them to support the patient pathway, using Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's) to ensure that functions of the role are carried out correctly and consistently within given timescales

Qualifications & Training Essential
Minimum of 3 GCSEs including English and Maths at Grade C or above or suitable equivalent qualification RSA III or NVQ III or suitable equivalent level administrative qualification ECDL or equivalent qualification / demonstrable experience

Knowledge & Experience Essential
Previous experience working in a clerical/administrative role Knowledge of medical terminology Experience of working within a busy/demanding environment. E.g. multi-disciplinary team Demonstrable working knowledge of Microsoft packages including Word
