About this role

Job summary

The role of the Mental Health Act Co-ordinator requires experience of working previously as a Mental Health Act personnel. The candidate will not only have to have the experience and knowledge of the Mental Health Act but will need to know how to apply the Act in terms of legal documentation and application. Just being aware of the Mental Health Act or law is not enough but the experience of implementation is required as well.

You must be able to show this and although training is given on Trust systems the candidate must be able to work alone at times without supervision.

The role involves being on site daily in a busy acute psychiatric hospital with the added management of two staff members. The successful candidate must have the skill set to prioritise a busy workload and juggle the demands and needs of the service whilst training and advising others such as doctors, nurses and social workers and patients and their families.

You must have empathy and show a desire to be a team player within the wider team as hold excellent communication skills.

Some knowledge of RIO would be advantageous.

The post is Monday to Friday and the hours of 9am - 5pm.

Main duties of the job

Scrutinising section paperwork Identifying the section expiry dates and implementing daily reminders Communication on both the telephone system and in person Be able to train staff as required Line management

The High-Cost Area (HCA) allowance, also referred to as London Weighting is a payment made to employees who work in London and the surrounding areas.

As this post is based in Dartford, Gravesham or Swanley, the successful applicant will receive an additional payment each month.

5% of basic salary, subject to a minimum payment of £1,346 per year and a maximum payment of £2,270 per year (the agreed annual amount will be divided into 12 equal amounts and paid monthly) (2026/27 figures)
