Job summary
The Resuscitation Officers provide training and clinical support across the Worcestershire Acute Trust in basic and advanced resuscitation skills and emergency care. This substantive full-time, band 6 post has become available as the service continues to develop to meet the challenges of todays NHS.
Applicants must have state registration (RGN / ODP / paramedic) and at least 2 years experience working in an acute care setting. They must have a demonstrable knowledge and enthusiasm for resuscitation medicine, ideally possessing the Resuscitation Council ALS instructor or provider qualification.
Teacher / trainer experience would be a distinct advantage as these skills would be fundamental to the role.
Based at the Worcestershire Royal Hospital, the post holder will also be required to meet commitments across all WAHT sites.

This Resuscitation Officer role has four key dimensions ; Operational support to the clinical emergency service, training (the primary focus of this role), clinical audit and service management support.

Key Working Relationships:
The post holder will be able to engage with the entire workforce although the main service users will be patient care staff (this includes all grades of medical, nursing and allied healthcare professional).
The post holder may liaise with the consultant medical staff, senior managers and department managers in the delivery of the service.
Appropriate training and operational support will be provided as detailed in the Trust Resuscitation Policy.
Risk Assessment:
As a clinical practitioner the post holder will follow trust guidelines in respect of known hazards using protective equipment and best practice at all times.
Manual handling operations should be avoided or modified so as to ensue a safe system of work.
As a trainer in resuscitation the post holder will supervise staff simulating CPR and advanced resuscitation procedures. These procedures carry some risk even in a training environment (ie defibrillation, cannulation and manual handling) and appropriate supervision must be maintained.
Key Duties:
The post holder will have four key fields of responsibility, being required to
Practice of Resuscitation :
Carry a hospital crash bleep and attend emergency 2222 calls whenever possible subject to active commitments.
Visit wards & departments to advise and assess on emergency equipment and procedures.
Support and debrief staff involved in resuscitation emergencies.
Education : This will be the post holders key role
Preparation and presentation of lectures and interactive practical sessions to all levels of staff in adult and paediatric basic and advanced life support.
Preparation and presentation of appropriate training to external agencies.
Development of knowledge and teaching skill in paediatric basic & advanced life support.
Maintenance of own knowledge and skill in all aspects of resuscitation.
Be lead instructor on in-house and national courses as required.
Provide support training in courses allied to resuscitation.
Research & Audit :
Support the Trust Resuscitation audits
Present resuscitation audit reports to the Resuscitation & Deteriorating Patient Committee if required
Participate and assist as appropriate in resuscitation research.
Management / General:
To attend the Resuscitation & Deteriorating Patient Committee (DREAMs).
To represent Resuscitation Officers team as required.
Maintain training equipment to appropriate working standard.
Maintain knowledge of varieties and suppliers equipment enabling recommendations to Trust staff
Person Specification
Experience Essential
2 years post graduate experience in an acute care environment Demonstrable enthusiasm for teaching.
Desirable
Experience in a critical care field (ICU, CCU, ED) Experience as a trainer.
Qualifications Essential
