About this role

Job summary

To work within the Aspire Drug and Alcohol Service providing structured recovery focused interventions within the Aspire Community Reintegration model utilising a phased and layered treatment approach.The post holder will carry out comprehensive strength based assessments in order to plan and deliver recovery interventions and evaluate the effectiveness of those relevant to the area of servicein which they work. He/she will act as a case manager to a defined allocated caseload of service users under the supervision of a designated Senior Drug and Alcohol Nurse within the team. To link service users with recovery support interventions such as access to support with education, training, employment, debt management, housing, sports and diversionary activities and other wraparound services, building strong links with other statutory and non-statutory organisations to increase physical and economic capital for service users. To work in cooperation with mutual aid groups, providing facilitated access and assertive linkage to these networks. The post holder will support patients with co-existing conditions and offer widersupport to staff with patients who may have lower level mental health issues.

Main duties of the job

To work as a member of the multidisciplinary team using effective communication skills to interact positively with both service users and professionals in order to provide a range of services to problematic drinkers and drug takers with poor mental health, including harm minimisation approaches, motivational interviewing, relapse prevention, recovery planning and interventions, health education and promotion, detoxification programmes , pre and post-test counselling for bloodborne viruses (BBV's), brief interventions and group work.The post holder will carry out comprehensive strength-based assessments.To conduct risk/needs assessment and develop and implement risk management plans in line with policy and procedure, liaising with other health and social care professionals where necessary. Toreview risk/needs assessment as required.To provide direct care and case management to an allocated case load under the supervision of a Senior Drug and Alcohol Nurse within the team.

To work with the patients who has additional unmet mental health needs and look to link them back into community mental health services. To link with the inpatient mental health wards offering support for patients who use drug and alcohol and also offer support and guidance to ward staff.

To be a link for other Aspire staff members around mental health concerns.

Person Specification

Qualifications Essential

Registered Nurse - must hold current registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) NMC approved mentor and assessing course. Post basic qualification in drug and alcohol misuse or evidence of learning beyond registration in areas relevant to the area.

Desirable

PSI Qualification Qualification at Masters Degree level

Experience Essential

Demonstrable post qualification experience of working with people who have experienced drug and/or alcohol problems Evidence of working with people who have experienced common mental health problems and dual diagnosis Experience of undertaking risk assessments and risk management Experience of working within a variety of settings from community to inpatient.

Desirable

Worked in a service where agreed targets in place demonstrating clinical outcomes Experience of working with patient information systems

Skills Essential

Ability to lead and organise others within the workplace. Ability to evaluate and put in place the effect of training Ability to manage stress positively. IT literate: competent in the use of Microsoft office applications including Word and Outlook. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including report writing skills.

Desirable

Experience of training delivery. Delivery of PSI approaches both on a 1-1 basis and group work.

Knowledge Essential

Demonstrates an understanding of the effects of problematic drug and alcohol use on the individual, the family and the wider community. Demonstrates an understanding for the need to use evidence based psychological therapies and how it relates to this post An understanding of harm minimisation and health promotion in the context of problematic drug and alcohol use Knowledge of treatment and interventions used in the treatment of problematic drug and alcohol use. Understanding of equal opportunities and diversity within the workplace and in service delivery. Understanding of child protection issues within the context of problematic drug and alcohol use and the effects problematic use may have on parenting.

Desirable

Demonstrates knowledge of the importance of social capital and the impact it can have on mental health and problematic drug and alcohol use. Knowledge of medication used in anxiety and depression and other common mental health problems
