Job summary

Dorset Healthcare Estates and Facilities Directorate are seeking to appoint a conscientious and self-motivated Fra Carpenter, to our delivery team based at our office and workshop facilities in Wareham.

As a Fra Carpenter, you will deliver pre-planned maintenance, fire safety and quality repair services to a variety of Trust premises which include Hospitals, Health Centre's, Mental Health In-Patient Units and Administrative Buildings, across Dorset.

Under the management of the Estates Building Officer, the Fra Carpenter will work alongside colleagues in the electrical and mechanical delivery teams, as well as facility managers and clinical staff across all sites in Dorset.

A programme of development training and mentoring is in place to assist with your appointment in these roles and giving you the opportunity to progress to more senior roles.

Recruitment and Retention Premium £3500 is available, as well NHS Pension, 27 days leave plus Bank Holidays, and over-time paid at premium rates, 4.5% is paid for on call.

UK driving licence is essential and a tracked vehicle (business use and commuting only) and work wear will be provided. The role will require inclusion in the Estates 24hr on-call service covering all of Dorset

Main duties of the job

Carry out specialist fire safety carpentry work, including installation, inspection, maintenance, and repair of fire doors, frames, and associated components to meet current legislation and British Standards. Undertake fire stopping works, sealing gaps and penetrations to maintain fire compartmentation and ensure building safety compliance. Deliver a high-quality planned and reactive maintenance service across the Trust's estate, ensuring minimal disruption to clinical and operational services Complete a wide range ofgeneral carpentry and maintenance tasks, including repairs to doors, windows, flooring, roofing, and other building elements. Maintain accuratecompliance records and documentation, including use of mobile systems and certification requirements. Work collaboratively withEstates staff, ward teams, and external contractors to support safe and effective service delivery. Plan and prioritise own workload, responding promptly to urgent repairs and participating in an on-call rota when required. Employment in this post requires a Standard Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check, which the Trust will cover the cost of.

Person Specification

Education Essential

Good standard of general education Completed a relevant recognised building craft apprenticeship up to level 3 in carpentry or level 2 in carpentry

Desirable

Basic IT skills, normally obtained through practice or practical training

Experience Essential

Building experience in a maintenance. proof of significant equivalent experience in carpentry and fire stopping.

Desirable

Experience in a healthcare maintenance.

Personal qualities/attributes Essential

Ability to motivate others in service delivery and quality improvement initiatives Ability to communicate with clarity and confidence. Ability to work in a highly professional manner.

Desirable

Basic IT skills, normally obtained through practice or practical training. Working as a team player.
