Job summary
We wish to appoint a fixed term Consultant Gastroenterologist to join the existing department providing gastroenterology inpatient and outpatient services at St Richard's Hospital, West Sussex. This post has arisen due to maternity leave for a Consultant Gastroenterologist.
The post will be to take over the clinical practice of a colleague on maternity leave whose scope of practice is in Gastroenterology. The existing consultants also place great emphasis on the ability of an individual to work closely as part of a cohesive team and to share an ambition for ongoing service improvement and development.
Main duties of the job
The clinical duties of the post include the following:
Deliver care of patients on acute gastroenterology wards in partnership with consultant colleagues (negotiable for this fixed term post)
Deliver gastroenterology outpatient clinic service (including IBD caseload)
Perform diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy
Participate in on call duties as agreed between the appointee and clinical director/medical director for gastroenterology (negotiable for this fixed term post)
Take a shared role in the development of the gastroenterology service in conjunction with the management team and consultant colleagues in gastroenterology
Participate in MDT working and clinical governance
Provide professional supervision, direction and training to the junior medical staff
Participate in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching
Attend meetings of the department of gastroenterology and division of medicine
On-call commitment:
Currently 1:14 Monday-Thursday out of hours GI bleed on call for St Richards and Worthing hospitals
Currently 1:14 weekend cross site GI bleed on call combined with targeted gastroenterology inpatient ward rounds and emergency floor in-reach

Experience/Qualifications Essential
