The Sickle cell, Thalassemia and Haemophilia service within the Haematology Department is seeking a motivated full time Band 6 Clinical Nurse Specialist to join the specialist nursing team.

The post holder will be working closely with the CNS lead for the service, Haematology Consultants and other Haematology CNS team members. This will include multidisciplinary team working across the Trust.

The service provides comprehensive assessments and treatment plans for patients with lifelong conditions. Patients attend for regular reviews at both nurse led and consultant clinics in outpatient settings, as well as on the ward, the Emergency Department as well as having telephone assessments.

The post holder will be trained and supported to provide specialist care for patients with haemoglobinopathy or lifelong bleeding conditions. This includes assessing patients, triaging admissions and coordinating care in conjunction with the medical staff. These patients require significant psychological support to help them adapt/cope with their conditions on a daily basis. The post holder will demonstrate good clinical care, excellent communication skills, good relationships with patients and good team working. There will be development opportunities to work towards non - medical nurse prescribing as well as other relevant training.

Main duties of the job

This is an exciting opportunity to gain specialist knowledge in non malignant Haematology.

The post holder will be trained and supported to provide specialist care for patients with haemoglobinopathy or lifelong bleeding conditions. This includes assessing patients, triaging admissions and coordinating care in conjunction with the medical staff. These patients require significant psychological support to help them adapt/cope with their conditions on a daily basis. The post holder will demonstrate good clinical care, excellent communication skills, good relationships with patients and good team working. There will be development opportunities to work towards non - medical nurse prescribing as well as other relevant training.

You will be expected to manage a caseload of patients autonomously via clinics and day to day acute calls from the patients. You will educate and work closely with patients, carers and wider members of the MDT including onward referrals to other specialist services within and outside the hospital. You will assist and monitor patients compliance to their treatment/medications, provide specialist information, advice and support to improve quality of life. The successful candidate will be dynamic, hardworking, exhibit excellent standards in communication and will be expected to lead and deliver high quality evidence-based care.The post holder will be supported in their professional development within the role.

The team are based at The newly refurbished Haematology and Oncology Day unit, The Meadows at Eccleshill Community Hospital. The role will be Mon-Fri 9am-5pm.

This role requires a high level of competence, nursing expertise and clinical decision making skills. Individuals should be flexible with the ability to develop excellent interpersonal relationships.You will need a minimum of 2 years post registration experience.

You must be able to demonstrate post registration experience in the care and management of people with complex need.
