Job summary
Southwark Community Dermatology is seeking a fixed term (15 month) part time (2PA) General Practitioner with Extended Role in Dermatology to join a dynamic, enthusiastic and forward thinking team. The department is currently involved in many exciting initiatives and are looking for an individual(s) with appropriate skills to complement this team and help keep the service in the forefront of clinical and academic excellence.
The post holder(s) will be expected to show drive and initiative towards patient care putting the patient first. He/She should have significant experience in the provision of primary care services and either hold accreditation or seeking accreditation in dermatology, by completing a dermatology diploma or equivalent training.
This is an excellent opportunity to join a first class team in an active and progressive community service delivered on the sites of Guy's Hospital and Elm Lodge Surgery.
Main duties of the job
The Southwark Community Dermatology Service provides intermediate dermatology care to all of those adults living in the borough of Southwark with the exception of 2WW referrals. It forms part of the St John's Institute of Dermatology, which has clinical activities on both hospital campuses (Guy's and St Thomas') is the largest clinical dermatology department in the UK and uniquely has a very large tertiary referral base (70% of all referrals) which provides an unparalleled range of skin disease for teaching and research.
The Dermatology Directorate at GSTT currently sits within Integrated and Specialist
Medicine. The Senior Management team consists of Dr Toby Garrood - Clinical Director, Michaela Cashman - General Manager and Louise Farrow - Head of Nursing.

The post-holder will be responsible to Southwark Community Clinic Lead Dr Amr
Salam and GPwER Lead Dr Naomi Kemp. The post-holder will be accountable to Dr Stephen Thomas and Dr Daniella Chiltern Clinical Directors for Genetics, Rheumatology, Infection, Dermatology, Allergy and Sexual Health SDU.
It is intended that the role of the Community Dermatology Southwark (CDS) GPwERs will be broadly in line with the RCGP 2018 Guidance and competences to support the accreditation of GPs with Extended Roles (GPwERs).
GPwERs will, in conjunction with Kings Health partners and under the auspices of IHL, provide a SEL CCG commissioned clinical service for Southwark GP registered patients with non-urgent dermatological problems that do not fall within the 2week wait remit.
The GPwER will offer 9-10 consultations as a mixture of new, follow up and telephone follow-up patients.
The role of the Dermatology GPwER Offer dermatology consultations for assessment of patients referred into CDS services clinics with use of dermoscopy as appropriate
Offer procedures such as cryotherapy, injections and surgical intervention as appropriate
Arrange investigation, offer management plans for GP implementation (returning patients to GP care) or to offer follow up (either face to face or as a telephone consultation) or onward referral to secondary care as needed
Maintain adequate and timely records of consultations, investigations, prescribing and procedures using the clinical system (currently EMIS) and its templates &/or a separate database where appropriate (eg biopsies)
Ensure timely review of results with communication of the outcome to the patient or their carer and/or referring clinician as appropriate.
Complete computerised outcome letters to the referring clinician/ patient/ carer and liaise with the administration team to ensure that letters reach them
Prescribe in line with local dermatology formularies (Southwark/ South East London APC/ JMF)
Practise in a way that seeks to comply with the SE London Treatment Access Policy.
Practise within national 2WW/ NICE/ IOG/ BAD/PCDS/ local dermatology guidelines
Person Specification
Professional qualification Essential
Eligible for full UK GMC registration and a Licence to Practice. Eligible for full GMC Registration with entry on the General Practitioner Register. Has completed a Diploma in Dermatology (or equivalent qualification).
Desirable
Has commenced accruing evidence towards becoming a GPwER in Dermatology, or is currently fully accredited
Clinical Experiance Essential
Significant experience of independent practice as GPwER or GPwSI Experience in managing patients with skin disease in the community and/or secondary care dermatology settings.
Clinical skills Essential
Extensive skills in the diagnosis and management of patients with skin disease in the community.
Audit Management & IT Essential
Track record of clinical governance, audit, management and IT skills required. Understanding of principles of audit.

Track record of service development.
Research. Teaching skill & experience Essential
Understands the principles of research within clinical practice and evidence-based medicine Experience of teaching and training undergraduates, postgraduates and junior medical staff.
