The Nuclear Medicine Department at RBFT is a Physics-led clinical patient-facing service, and is part of the Medical Physics and Clinical Engineering Directorate.
We installed a new SPECT-CT scanner in 2023 and we have the 2nd ordered for installation this summer.
The Medical Physics and Clinical Engineering Department is a co-Directorate alongside the Berkshire Cancer Centre with a friendly and supportive leadership team.
In the most recent NHS National Staff Survey, MPCE had the highest staff satisfaction of all the Trust Directorates.
We actively support personal development and engagement in activities such as outreach and work experience visits from students.
Main duties of the job
The main duty is to act as a nuclear medicine operator.
The team rotate through all aspects of the Department, from vetting (under protocol), dispensing, injecting, scanning and image processing. You would also be involved in equipment QA checks. There are also regular reporting sessions with the radiologists that you could become involved in.
We also do GFR tests, and some radionuclide therapies. Witht eh installation of the second scanner will are planning to expand the service to include neurological and Cardiac Stress Testing studies.
Team members play a part in all aspects of the Department, including looking after our patients, their appointments, queries etc., and all that is involved in working with radioactive materials, from ordering through to disposal.

Person Specification
Qualifications Essential
Radiographer degree, or science plus nuclear medicine training, or equivalent. Current HCPC or RCT Registration or ability to become registered.
Desirable
Postgraduate Nuclear Medicine Diploma.
Experience Essential
Previous experience in Nuclear Medicine department, using gamma cameras and associated equipment, and handling radioactive materials. Knowledge of Nuclear Medicine scanning protocols.
Desirable
Ability to give IV injections and carry out venepuncture. Knowledge of Nuclear Medicine processing protocols.
