About this role

Job summary

This post is a Registrar post of ST4+ in General/neonatal Paediatrics which is full time.The successful applicant will be on the middle grade rota. The Royal Berkshire Hospital Paediatric Department covers a large child population of around 125,000 and 5800 deliveries. The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit has 16 cots and 4 funded intensive care cots. There is also a transitional care arrangement for convalescing infants. There is one General Acute Paediatric Ward, Lion Ward. Lion Ward has 29 beds including a 6 bed High Dependency Unit and two oncology suites with accommodation for parents. Lion ward takes medical, surgical and orthopaedic patients. There is also a Paediatric Day Bed Unit, Kempton, which has 10 beds. All acute GP referrals are seen in the Paediatric Emergency department. All walk in paediatric patients are seen by the A&E team and referred to paediatrics if they need admission. There is a dedicated Paediatric SDEC that takes referrrals via GP and Emergency Department pathways for patients that are suitable to be seen on an admission avoidance pathway.

Main duties of the job

The post-holder will cover a mixture of ED, Neonates and paediatrics during working hours (ward cover, acute GP referrals seen within Paediatric A&E or Paediatric SDEC, and daybed patient reviews. There will be an opportunity to cover outpatient clinics. During on-call shifts (from 5pm and weekends) the registrar will cover both neonates and paediatrics. We have separate consultant rota for general paediatrics and Neonates.

Neonatal unit is a level 2 SCBU were we manage preterm above 28weeks gestation. There are 2 ANP's and separate neonatal SHO/FY2/ST trainees as a part of the neonatal rota.

Job description Job responsibilities

This is a Registrar Post in Paediatrics at the Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust. There is a full shift pattern. Annual leave is at the rate of 6 weeks per year. Single accommodation is available at a small charge; married accommodation is subject to rental less abatement for on-call commitments.

This post will run as a 1:11 full shift rota with prospective cover and offers banding for the Fellow ST4 post. The successful applicant will be on the middle grade rota.

There are 11-12 registrar posts providing core training within the Department of Paediatrics, each person rotating at six monthly intervals through different parts of the department including community paediatric training. The normal shifts are day shift 08:30 to 17:00, long day 08:30 to 21:30, A&E eve 13:30 to 22:00, Nights 20:45 to 09:30 and weekend long day 08:30 to 21:30 hours.
