About this role

Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 5 Manual Handling Educator to join our friendly team. We are looking to appoint an enthusiastic, motivated individual to join the Manual Handling Training team as a Manual Handling Educator.

You would provide face to face hands on practical training and education to all staff groups on moving and handling of patients and loads. Training includes mandatory, non-mandatory, bespoke specialised training and onsite training sessions to specific staff groups. There will also be the opportunity to assist with provision of external training based.

The Manual Handling Educator will assist the service to promote musculoskeletal health at work and reduce injury. This will contribute to the health and wellbeing of staff at work and prevention of harms to patients.

Good communication, IT, interpersonal and training skills are essential for the post, which will be used to proactively deliver support, advice and training to all staff groups within the Trust.

The service operates across all Trust sites and it is essential part of the role that the Manual Handling Educator travels to different locations for the start of their shift, including external sites, where their role requires them to do so.

There is also an opportunity for a rotation between the Training and Risk workstream in service.

Main duties of the job

This is a practical training post, skills taught are hands on practical, and you will be involved in the physical aspects of moving people and objects on a daily basis.

When not training you will support staff in the delivery of safe manual handling in patient care working alongside staff in clinical areas. Experience in moving and handling of people in a health care setting would be valuable.

Successful candidates who are non-clinical or have limited clinical exposure will be assigned to a ward to gain patient handling skills in the first month in post. There will also be opportunity to work alongside non-clinical staff with inanimate object handling.

There are excellent opportunities for Learning and Development in this speciality; the successful applicant must be prepared to:

*successfully complete external trainer/education courses during the first 18 months in post

*study at post graduate certificate or diploma level at university within 2-3 years

Once established in post there is an opportunity for rotation between the Training and Risk workstream of the service.

Person Specification

Qualifications Essential

Health profession qualification (Nursing; Allied health professional (AHP); Ergonomist) or equivalent qualification and/or Education qualification (e.g., for education Level 4 Certificate in Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector (CET) or higher). and/or Training / assessing / education qualification specific to Manual Handling (e.g., Equivalent to RoSPA/EDGE level 3 qualifications). and/or General education to A level standard (or equivalent).

Desirable

Ability to work at post graduate level education for ongoing study at University or willingness to achieve this Award in Education and Training (AET) -- minimum IOSH. Coaching and/or Mentorship qualifications. Evidence of continuous professional development in current area of work.

Experience Essential

Demonstrate experience of working in healthcare and/or with dependent people/significant carer responsibilities. Demonstrate experience of practical patient/load manual handling. Experience of delivering training/education. Knowledge and experience of IT packages e.g. Microsoft (Office, Word, Excel and PowerPoint) Office 365/Teams.

Desirable

Prioritisation skills with ability to manage multiple strands of work. Knowledge of manual handling procedures and equipment. Experience of patient handling preferably in an acute care setting. Experience of development of training programmes. Knowledge of relevant Health and Safety legislation.
