This is a rotational post involving various surgical specialities and surgical HDU to commence in August 2026.
This post is ideal for trainees who have completed their foundation training who have an interest in surgery as a career and wish to expand their surgical experience prior to applying for a CST programme.

The surgical departments are looking for a junior fellow to help support the surgery service at University Hospital Southampton NHS FT.
This is a rotational post involving 4 months placements within various the surgical specialities such as trauma and orthopaedics, general surgery, surgical HDU and ENT/OMFS.
This post holder will be expected to contribute to the out hours on-call rota within their allocated subspeciality including weekends and nights coverThere will be exposure to allocated theatres and departmental teachings

Appointment will be made under local contractual terms and conditions of service for Trust appointed fellow doctors and dentists. Applicants requiring Skilled Worker sponsorship should ensure they meet the Home Office application criteria prior to submitting an application.
Successful candidates will have an educational framework equivalent to training grade doctors, and there will be a named educational supervisor assigned at the start of the post. The opportunity for Continued Professional Development (CPD) is highly supported and encouraged by the Trust, with options available to take study leave.
Grades for Trust appointed fellows will be paid a basic salary at a nodal pay point linked to the grade, at the rate set out in the National Medical and Dental pay circular. Basic salary plus any additional remuneration (as applicable) for hours set out in the doctors work schedule (e.g. additional hours, weekend allowance, and any hours which attract enhanced pay)

Person Specification
Qualifications, Training and Experience Essential
MBBS or equivalent medical qualification GMC registration with a licence to practise Appropriate knowledge base, and ability to apply sound clinical judgement to problems Completion of UK Foundation training programme year 1 or equivalent Minimum of six months experience in the NHS Minimum of 4 months experience in a surgical speciality at a foundation year 1 or 2 level
Desirable
Completion of UK Foundation training Programme Experience working as an SHO within surgical speciality Less than 12 months surgical experience as an SHO (post FY1) Certification ALS
Aptitudes & Skills Essential
