Job summary

We are seeking experiencedChemotherapy Nurses (Band 6) to join our dedicated oncology team. In this pivotal role, you will deliver expert, patient-centred care as a named nurse for a defined group of patients, ensuring the highest standards of practice in line with the Nursing and Midwifery Council Code and Trust guidelines.

Main duties of the job

Provide specialist care and clinical leadership within the ward or department. Safely administer chemotherapy and intravenous treatments in accordance with Trust protocols. Support the Ward Manager by deputising when required and managing complex clinical situations. Maintain up-to-date specialist knowledge and act as a role model for best practice. Mentor and supervise junior staff, fostering a positive learning environment. Contribute to service development, quality improvement, and clinical governance initiatives, including audits and risk management. Communicate effectively with patients, carers, and the multidisciplinary team to enhance the patient experience.

Person Specification

Education/ qualifications Essential

Registered nurse (level 1) Relevant specialist course or equivalent experience in oncology nursing Recognised chemotherapy course or equivalent. Mentorship course

Desirable

Has attained or is willing to work towards Degree/Bsc in Nursing.

Experience Essential

Experience within speciality (e.g. oncology nursing) as Staff Nurse/Senior Staff Nurse.

Desirable

Experience in people management and improving the patient experience

Skills/knowledge/ abilities Essential

Ability to work effectively under pressure. Competency in medication administration including IV drugs and chemotherapy certification IT skills including use of email and Microsoft Office packages. Engages in reflective practice to facilitate learning and improvement in self and others

Desirable

Ability to appraise staff and willingness to learn new skills
