This post is for a Consultant Haematologist responsible for delivering comprehensive clinical care to patients with a wide range of blood disorders, including haematological malignancy. The role also involves providing specialist advice on all aspects of haematology to colleagues across the Trust and in Primary Care.
The successful applicant will be based at Furness General Hospital, with flexibility to work across Trust sites, including Royal Lancaster Infirmary. Outpatient activity will include general haematology clinics, with the opportunity to develop a sub-specialist interest. Clinics are delivered within oncology units across the three sites, in close proximity to chemotherapy delivery areas.
This is a full-time 10 PA post with 2 additional programmed activities (APA), subject to negotiation and reviewed annually through the job planning process. Main duties of the job
The postholder will provide full clinical care for patients with haematological conditions, including haematological malignancy. They will deliver specialist haematology advice to colleagues within the Trust and in Primary Care, supporting safe and effective patient management.
The role includes contributing to clinical laboratory services at Furness General Hospital and Royal Lancaster Infirmary. The appointee will also participate in the consultant on-call rota, providing cover across all Trust hospitals.
A whole-time equivalent consultant would typically undertake three general haematology outpatient clinics per week, alongside developing and maintaining a sub-specialist interest aligned to service needs.
There will be an expectation for the successful candidate to participate in a 1 in 5/6 on-call rota, which attracts an additional 1 PA and a 5% supplement.

Qualifications/Skills Essential
Full registration and a licence to practise with the GMC. Specialist Registration, or within 6 months of award at time of interview. Accredited specialist in Haematology (or within 6 months of gaining CCT) or equivalent MRCP or equivalent MRCPath (Haematology)
Experience Essential
Experience in managing acutely unwell general medical patients / Core Medical Training Broad training in all aspects of clinical and laboratory haematology
