This is an exciting and pivotal role for a GP who is passionate about combining excellent clinical care with meaningful leadership. As GP Clinical Lead, you will report to the GP Partners and Medical Director at Keston Medical Practice to help shape the clinical direction of the practice, drive quality improvement, and support the development of a high performing multidisciplinary team. The Clinical lead will have the opportunity to lead and shape services at the Purley, Kenley and upcoming Coulsdon Site. The role offers genuine leadership responsibility, career development and direct mentorship from a GP Partner or Medical Director. Main duties of the job
The Clinical Lead GP will deliver high-quality, patient-centred care while providing clinical leadership across Keston Medical Practice sites. The role includes undertaking routine and urgent GP consultations, managing complex cases, supporting evidence-based prescribing, and maintaining accurate clinical records. The postholder will contribute to achieving key performance targets, including QOF, DES, IIF and LCS requirements, whilst ensuring compliance with clinical governance and patient safety standards.
Working closely with GP Partners and the Medical Director, the Clinical Lead GP will support service improvement, lead clinical meetings, oversee quality and governance initiatives, and provide supervision and mentorship to the wider multidisciplinary team. The role also involves supporting workforce development, training future clinicians, driving service innovation, and contributing to the ongoing growth and sustainability of the practice to ensure excellent outcomes for patients and the local community.

Clinical Duties
Deliver routine and urgent GP services
Take a proactive leadership role in contributing to the attainment of organisational KPIs including, but not limited to, QOF, IIF, LCS, DES, and clinical governance alerts within consultations, ensuring compliance with quality and commissioning standards.
Provide clinical oversight, line management and support to nursing staff, ANPs, and allied health professionals including Pharmacists, ensuring safe and effective multidisciplinary care.
Respond to complex cases with comprehensive assessment, investigation, diagnosis, treatment, and appropriate referral.
Ensure evidence-based prescribing in line with local and national guidelines and best practice standards.
Maintain clear, contemporaneous medical records to agreed standards, supporting continuity of care and information governance.
Participate in clinical audits, service evaluations, and peer reviews, using findings to drive improvement.
Provide extended hours and Saturday clinics as required to meet practice and contractual obligations.
Undertake Duty Doctor and Paperwork responsibilities
Clinical Leadership & Governance
Work closely with the Medical Director and GP Partners to provide strategic clinical leadership and ensure operational continuity across the practice site
Chair regular clinical meetings and take an active role in shaping the practice's quality improvement and service development agenda.
Bring a flexible, service-first approach to rota management and contingency cover including stepping into clinical sessions, duty, or triage at short notice when operationally required. As a clinical leader, the postholder understands that patient access and team resilience come first and leads by example when circumstances require it.
Lead on CQC compliance, patient safety, and risk management, ensuring the practice meets all regulatory requirements.
Oversee QOF, IIF, LCS, and other KPIs, working with the wider team to ensure compliance and maximise funding opportunities.
Collaborate with the Operations Manager to implement workflow efficiencies, digital innovations, and service optimisation.
Model a culture of flexible, resilient working, setting the tone for the broader clinical team.
Workforce Development & Education
Provide supervision, mentorship, and training for GP trainees, medical students, and allied health professionals.
Commit to becoming a GP Trainer (within an agreed time frame) if not already accredited, supporting the practice's training status and the pipeline of future GPs.
Support and/or lead CPD, peer learning, appraisals and career progression initiatives across the clinical team.
Contribute to learning events and foster a positive, high-performance clinical culture.
Practice Development & Commissioning
Lead and support service expansion, pathway redesign, and new initiatives to improve patient care and practice sustainability.
Engage in Practice-Based Commissioning, including demand management and reducing unnecessary secondary care referrals.
Support the development and delivery of Locally Commissioned Services (LCS), ensuring opportunities are maximised for the patient population.
Person Specification
Experience Essential
Minimum 2 years post-CCT General Practice experience Experience working within a GP practice environment Proficiency with EMIS, AccuRx, and Docman Video and telephone consultation experience
Desirable
Leadership experience in primary care Experience achieving QOF, LCS, DES, and IIF targets GP Trainer or currently in GP Trainer training Experience in total triage Experience working in a multi-site or large-scale primary care organisation
Clinical Skills Essential
High-quality, patient-centred consultations (face-to-face, telephone, home visits) Chronic disease management and health promotion Evidence-based prescribing in line with local and national guidelines Participation in clinical audit and service evaluation
Desirable
Women's health, coil fitting, or minor surgery / joint injections Extended access (early starts / late finishes on some days)

Qualifications Essential
