Job summary
To function effectively as a member of the DTU team and to ensure the provision and development of an efficient and high quality surgical service.To deliver a holistic care package, which is current, evidence based and effective.The Band 5 Registered Practitioner requires a broad knowledge and skill base including communication and team working skills, in order that they contribute to the smooth running of the DTU.The Band 5 Registered Practitioner will actively seek out learning opportunities for both self and others, providing support and assessment to junior members of the team and other learners.The Band 5 DTU Practitioner will work in each speciality/area in order to gain experience and to develop the necessary skills to participate effectively in the service as required.As with all other members of staff the Band 5 DTU Practitioner must perform within their scope of practice and not exceed the boundaries of competence. They will remain accountable for their actions and omissions.In the absence of senior staff, the Band 5 DTU Practitioner will oversee the running of the department, whilst promoting a positive standard of healthcare to patients, relatives, carers and staff.The Registered Practitioner will supervise juniors/learners, support them and offer feedback on performance as necessary.
Main duties of the job
Key Responsibilities
Provide Peri-operative care :The Pre-operative Phaseo Admission and preparation of the patient including interventions and investigations.o Prepare the Perioperative environment, procedure rooms and recovery bay.o Communication effectively with patients, their relatives and colleagues.o Report appropriately any faulty equipment or sterility problems to the team leader.o Admit patients into the department confirming the patient's identity and completing all necessary documentation.o Oversee the care of the patient, maintaining patientconfidentiality and dignity at all timeso Co-ordinate the safe transfer and movement of patients throughout the unito maintain patients privacy and dignity at all timeso Maintain a clean, safe environment, communicating and working effectively with the perioperative team.
The Intra-operative Phaseo observe and support the patient during the intra-operative phase.
The Post-operative Phase
oReceive handover from the scrub practitioneroReceive handover from the scrub practitionero Monitor the patient's physiological parameters and provide support as required.o Co-ordinate the patient pathway.o Provide the patient with refreshments where required.o Perform or supervise all care interventions.o Discharge the patient, following agreed protocols, completing all documentation.
