Job summary
The posts will be in the Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology at the North Middlesex Hospital and the appointee will join the rota for ST3-7s.
The new appointees will join a busy and supportive department with a strong commitment to high standards of patient care. There will scope in the job plan to undertake ATSMs in advanced labour ward/ antenatal practice, Fetal Medicine or high risk pregnancy if you are eligible and support will be provided for completion of core training log book and application for CESR.
There will be an Obstetrics and Gynaecology on-call (20.00pm-08.00am) with 2 tiers of registrars and a SHO. The successful candidates expected to cover weekends on approximately a 1:10 rota. They will be assigned either a day or a night shift for the weekend. There is a 98 hours per week consultant presence on the labour ward.
Everyone will undergo both a hospital and a departmental induction prior to starting the job. There is a monthly Perinatal Meeting with the Paediatricians which has mandatory attendance. There is a Friday morning CTG meeting and Friday afternoon Calman teaching which is compulsory for all registrars to attend. There is a Departmental Audit meeting oncea month.

Main duties of the job
The appointee will undertake general duties in Obstetrics and Gynaecology when on call. They will also have a weekly specialist clinic session including EPAU scanning, Fetal medicine scan, Colposcopy and hysteroscopy.
For emergency gynaecology the post-holder should be competent in performingo Surgical Management of miscarriageo Diagnostic laparoscopyo Laparotomy for ruptured ectopic pregnancy
Training will be given (if necessary) in Laparoscopic Salpingostomy/ectomyThe successful candidate may attend both general and specialised gynaecology clinics. Any complex cases or patients who will need surgery should be discussed with the Consultant.
The successful candidate should be able to give basic antenatal and postnatal care and advise patients. Complex problems should be discussed with the Consultant.
On Labour ward the Registrar should be proficient in:o Management of Normal Labouro Instrumental Deliverieso Suturing of episiotomies and tearso Manual removal of placentao CTG interpretation and Fetal Blood Samplingo Caesarean Sections
All Labour Ward sessions are covered by a Consultant who will lead the Ward Round and who will supervise the post-holder.
