An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Royal Devon University Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust for a motivated and experienced individual to join our Estates & Facilities team as a Waste Compliance Manager.
This specialist role will lead on the safe, compliant, and efficient management of healthcare waste across all Trust sites, ensuring adherence to relevant legislation, national guidance, and NHS standards while supporting the Trusts environmental sustainability and net zero ambitions.

Acting as the Trusts subject matter expert, you will influence best practice, improve waste segregation, and support compliance across a large and diverse estate. You will also contribute to a range of environmental initiatives, applying the waste hierarchy to reduce environmental impact and support delivery of the Trusts Green Plan.
We are seeking an individual with experience in a waste management, environmental, or compliance role, ideally within healthcare or a regulated environment, and a sound understanding of relevant legislation such as HTM 07-01 and Duty of Care requirements. You should be confident in auditing services, monitoring compliance, and identifying improvements.
You will work collaboratively with clinical and non-clinical teams, building effective relationships with stakeholders and contractors, and influencing behaviour change. Strong organisational skills, the ability to manage a varied workload, and effective communication skills, including delivering training are essential.
You will be a proactive, approachable individual with a can do attitude, a commitment to continuous improvement, and the ability to work independently across multiple sites (Exeter, Barnstaple and all trust community locations).
Main Duties and Responsibilities
Lead on the operational oversight of all healthcare waste streams, including clinical, hazardous, offensive,recyclingand domestic waste. Ensure compliance with relevant legislation and guidance including HTM 07-01, Environmental Protection Act, and Duty of Care. Monitor, audit, and review waste management practices across all Trust sites. Develop, implement, andmaintainwaste policies, procedures, and standard operating procedures (SOPs). Act as the Trusts subject matter expert for waste compliance and environmental management. Monitor contractor performance, including waste collection and disposal services. As required/requested, deliver training and awareness programmes to improve waste segregation and compliance. Investigate incidents, non-compliance, and environmental breaches, implementing corrective actions. Support delivery of the Trusts Green Plan, contributing to waste reduction, carbon reduction, and sustainability targets. Prepare reports and provide assurance to governance groups, regulators, and external auditors.Working Pattern: Monday - Friday 8am - 4pm / 37.5hrs per week
