Job summary

We are looking for a Salaried GP to join our friendly and supportive practice on a fixed-term contract until March 2027. This role offers flexibility of 4 - 7 sessions per week within a well-established multidisciplinary team dedicated to delivering high-quality patient care.

You will benefit from a collaborative working environment, strong clinical and administrative support and a positive practice culture. The role includes protected administrative time, a fixed number of appointments per day and participation in triage for a maximum of one session per week. In addition, the post offers 6 weeks' annual leave (pro rata) and 5 sessions of paid educational time each year, based on an educational plan agreed with your educational supervisor, supporting both your professional development and work-life balance.

Main duties of the job

The General Practitioner is responsible for delivering high-quality medical services to the registered practice population in line with the service contract. The post-holder will provide an excellent standard of clinical care while adhering to standards of good medical practice and relevant professional guidance. They will contribute to the effective management of the practice and work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team, fostering positive and productive working relationships to support safe, efficient, and patient-centred care.

Mount Pleasant Health Centre (MPHC) is the Lead Practice within the NEXUS Primary Care Network caring for a population of 42,000 patients. We have several PCN ARRS staff working on site at the health center providing an excellent multidisciplinary working environment. We are one of the largest training practices in Devon, most of the partners are GP trainers, involved in the education of student nurses, medical students, and a variety of doctor training posts. We have an excellent relationship with our league of friends charity and our Patient Participation Group, working together on opportunities to benefit patient care. Job description Job responsibilities

Key Duties and Areas of Responsibility

In accordance with the practice rota, undertake duties including surgery consultations, triage, telephone consultations and queries.

Make professional, autonomous decisions in relation to presenting problems, whether self-referred or referred from other health care workers within the organisation.

Screen patients for disease risk factors and early signs of illness.

Assess the health care needs of patients with undifferentiated and undiagnosed problems.

Visiting patients at home, checking and signing repeat prescriptions as well as dealing with paperwork and administration in a timely fashion.

Perform clinical examinations of patients to assess, diagnose and monitor conditions.

Carry out minor surgery where required.

Provide emergency care while waiting for emergency transfer.

Effective management of long-term conditions.

Working collaboratively, accepting an equal share of the practice workload.

Maintain accurate clinical records in conjunction with good practice, policy, and guidance.

Undertake telephone triage and duty doctor roles.

Liaise with other healthcare professionals as part of multidisciplinary teams.

Develop care plans for health in consultation with patients and in line with current practice disease management protocols.

Record clear and contemporaneous consultation notes to agreed standards.

Prescribe in accordance with the practice prescribing formulary (or generically) whenever this is clinically appropriate.

Participate in practice audits as and when required.

Participate in local initiatives to enhance service delivery and patient care.

Participate in the review of significant and near-miss events applying a structured approach i.e., root cause analysis (RCA).

Adhere to best practice recommended through clinical guidelines and the audit process.

Contribute to the successful implementation of continuous improvement and quality initiatives within the practice.

Contribute effective to the development and maintenance of the practice including clinical governance, training, financial management and HR.

Prepare and complete the revalidation process.

Qualifications Essential

Qualified GP Vocational Training Certificate or equivalent JCPTGP General Practitioner (Certificate of Completion of Training CCT) Full GMC registration with license to practice National Performers List registration Eligibility to practice in the UK independently

MRCGP qualification or similar Additional professional qualification i.e. MRCP, MRCGP, DRCOG, DCH

Experience Essential
