The primary purpose of this position, CHILD DEVELOPMENT SUPPORT ASSISTANT, NK-0303-02, is to serve as a Child Development Center Clerk, providing technical and clerical support for the smooth operation of the Child Development Program to include customer service, monitoring customer entry, data automation for maintaining files, file maintenance, payroll, financial record keeping and enrollment.

QualificationsIn order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Clerical and Administrative Support Positions. ONLY EXPERIENCE OBTAINED BY THE CLOSING DATE OF THIS ANNOUNCEMENT WILL BE CONSIDERED. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have one year of specialized experience at a level close to the work of this position that has given them the particular knowledge, skills and abilities required to successfully perform. Typically, we would find this experience in work within this field that is closely related. To be creditable, the specialized experience must have been equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-04), pay band (NK-01) or equivalent. Examples of specialized experience include communicating effectively and with tact and courtesy to both adults and children, individually and in groups; preparing and consolidating time and attendance records; requisitioning office supplies; enrolling new children and assisting with the completion of necessary forms; and utilizing a variety of office automation software to produce documents, reports, and spreadsheets. OR EDUCATION: Successfully completed 4 years above high school. This education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. ADDITIONAL CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: PHYSICAL EFFORT: Work requires walking, standing, bending, reaching, lifting / carrying children and moderate physical exertion. The incumbent works in a child development facility and may be required to lift / carry children and items weighing up to 40 pounds. NOTE: THIS POSITION REQUIRES A PRE-EMPLOYMENT PHYSICAL. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: 1. Skill in communicating effectively, with adults and children, individually and in groups, both orally and in writing, using tact and courtesy. 2. Knowledge of Child Development Programs, Instructions, directives, and local policies and procedures. 3. Skill and knowledge to operate or learn to operate a cash register and proper cash handling. 4. Ability to monitor enrollment keeping accurate records. 5. Knowledge of various office automation software programs, tools and techniques to support office operations and produce a variety of documents, such as letters, reports, spreadsheets, databases and graphs. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Major Duties- Establish, update, monitor, and maintain office records of various types. - Cordially greet parents, children and visitors upon entering the Child Development Centers. - Responsible for the accuracy of daily cashier reports, USDA records, reimbursement reports, deposits and all financial reports. - Enroll new children assisting parents with the completion of Air Force Forms 1181, USDA, waiting list, and any other form necessary for program enrollment.
