About this role
Maiden Erlegh School of Reading is seeking to appoint an Assistant Phase Lead - Reflection and Re-engagement Co-ordinator to lead the Refocus Room and support behaviour and inclusion systems. This is a key pastoral and inclusion role, providing targeted intervention, mentoring, outreach and re-engagement support for students experiencing behavioural, attendance, pastoral or emotional barriers to learning. The role will include supporting students experiencing Emotionally Based School Avoidance, including through home visits, to help reduce barriers to attendance and support successful reintegration into education.

Key Responsibilities The postholder will:
Lead and supervise the Refocus Room, maintaining a calm, purposeful and well-managed environment. Support students to access work provided, meet behaviour expectations and re-engage with learning. Provide targeted intervention and mentoring for students who are unable to attend lessons or school. Undertake outreach and home visits to support students with attendance, EBSA and reintegration needs. Support school behaviour systems, including On Patrol, On Support, Daily After School Detention and break or lunchtime supervision. Analyse behaviour and attendance information and provide clear reports to pastoral and teaching colleagues. Work closely with students, families, colleagues and external agencies to support positive behaviour, attendance and inclusion. Create intervention resources that help students reflect on behaviour, learning and successful reintegration into lessons. Contribute to a safe, orderly and inclusive school environment where students are supported to participate fully in school life.
The Ideal Candidate The successful candidate will have:
NVQ Level 2 or equivalent in English and maths. Relevant experience of working with young people in education, youth work, health, social services or a comparable setting. Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with students, colleagues, parents, carers and external agencies. A firm, fair and professional approach to supporting young people with behaviour expectations. The ability to maintain calm, purposeful and orderly environments for students requiring additional structure or support. Resilience, self-confidence and a responsible approach when working with vulnerable or disaffected students. The ability to analyse behaviour and attendance information and use this to support effective pastoral action. A commitment to safeguarding, equality and promoting the welfare of children and young people. A full driving licence and willingness to undertake home outreach visits.
