Clinical fellow in Paediatric Critical care

We are looking for the highest calibre quality doctors who are seeking to gain further experience, skills escalation, career progression and higher qualifications. Applications are on the middle grade Paediatric Critical care (PCC) rota from as soon as possible. The post is not recognised as a Deanery training post; however, the on-site training opportunities will be the same as the other ST3+ Doctors. The successful applicant will be assigned an educational supervisor to mentor their needs.

The post could suit a UK postgraduate doctor in training looking for an out of programme experiencein Paediatric Intensive care / Paediatric High dependency careor an internationalmedical graduateapplicant looking to gain experience in theacute Paediatrics in theUK, with a view to attaining CCTthrough theportfolio pathway (previously known as the CESR route).

Main duties of the job

. The trainee will havehands on opportunitiesto develop skills inPaediatric Critical care proceduressuch asendotrachealintubation, invasive venous and arterial lines, chest drains and other essential procedures. They will have access toourgeneralpaediatrics regular teaching program in additiontoin-housePCC educational activities.Our middle grade rota on PCC also includestwo advanced nurse practitioners (ANPs) who supportresearch activities,simulationand educational activities on PCC. PCC at UHNM is an active research centre and continuesto partake in national on-going researchprojects. PCC runs in-house and regional vascular ultrasound courses, NIV days and HDU courses. PCC alsoconducts regular in-house simulation having access to high fidelity SIM mannequins. PCC is supported by a full-time nurse educator. PCC workclosely with our excellentPaediatricRespiratory team, Paediatric LTV team and complex care teams.

Person Specification

Qualifications Essential

MBBS or equivalent Full GMC Registration APLS / EPALS provider status

Desirable

MRCPCH examination ALS / ATLS / ETLS certification Level 3 safeguarding course Paediatric Critical care fellowship in the local country Academic awards/distinctions Extracurricular achievements

Clinical Experience Essential

Experience at ST3 Paediatrics and above level Experience of Level 3 NICU

Desirable

Work experience in PICU Experience of Level 3 NICU as a registrar 6 months or more work experience in Anaesthesia / Adult ICU / Paediatric Emergency medicine

Skills Essential

Proven ability to work as a member of a team Ability to triage and work effectively and cope under pressure Ability to communicate effectively with patients, senior medical staff and other health professionals is vital. Basic airways skills to maintain airways in neonates and children Basic knowledge of NIV and invasive ventilation

Desirable

Neonate and Paediatric endotracheal intubation US guided invasive lines Chest drains, CRRT and PD Simulation experience Awareness of the importance of clinical governance Experience with clinical audits / research
