Job summary

Higham Ferrers Surgery is seeking an enthusiastic and compassionate GP to join our friendly, supportive team. This is an excellent opportunity for a clinician who values continuity of care and enjoys working in a smaller practice where strong relationships with patients and colleagues are at the heart of what we do. The successful candidate will provide high-quality clinical care, contribute to the ongoing development of the practice, and play an active role in shaping our future direction. An interest in teaching and mentoring would be highly valued, with opportunities to support and supervise our resident doctors. We welcome applications from GPs interested in working 6 to 8 sessions per week, with a planned start date of December 2026.

We are a small, supportive team of three GPs, working closely with our excellent nursing, administrative and reception colleagues to provide highquality, patientcentred care.

Job description Job responsibilities

The post-holder will provide comprehensive primary care services and undertake the full range of duties associated with a General Practitioner working within a GMS contract.

Key responsibilities will include:

Delivering face-to-face, telephone, and remote consultations, providing high-quality, patient-centred care across a diverse patient population.Conducting clinical assessments, formulating diagnoses, and implementing appropriate management plans for patients presenting with undifferentiated and complex medical conditions.Undertaking home visits where clinically appropriate and participating in the practice's on-call and urgent care arrangements.Reviewing, authorising, and managing repeat prescriptions, pathology results, clinical correspondence, and other patient-related documentation in a timely and safe manner.Maintaining accurate, comprehensive, and contemporaneous clinical records in accordance with professional, regulatory, and practice standards.Utilising practice clinical systems, including EMIS Web, ICE, e-Referral Service. EtcIdentifying health promotion opportunities and supporting preventative healthcare through risk assessment, screening, early diagnosis, and evidence-based disease management.Developing personalised care plans in partnership with patients, promoting self-management and shared decision-making.Making appropriate referrals to secondary care, community services, and other healthcare providers, ensuring coordinated and seamless patient care.Contributing to clinical audit, quality improvement initiatives, service evaluation, and the achievement of practice quality objectives.Prescribing safely, cost-effectively, and in accordance with local and national prescribing guidance and current clinical evidence.Supporting the delivery of high standards of clinical governance, patient safety, and regulatory compliance within the practice.

Person Specification

Qualifications Essential

-Fully qualified GP with GMC registration and a current licence to practise -Included on the NHS England GP Performers List -Demonstrates a commitment to high quality, patient centred care Able to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team -Good clinical decision making, communication, and interpersonal skills -Commitment to professional development, appraisal, and revalidation -Ability to manage workload safely and effectively within a modern general practice environment -Shares the practice values of collaboration, respect, and continuous improvement

Desirable

-Experience of working in UK general practice -Interest in or experience of quality improvement, audit, or service development -Familiarity with total triage or digital access systems (e.g. Anima) -Experience of or interest in teaching, mentoring, or supervision
