Job summary
We're looking for an experienced clinical pharmacist to join our Gastroenterology and Hepatology team at the Royal Stoke site. You'll help deliver a high-quality clinical pharmacy service to high-acuity and complex patients across our Gastroenterology and Hepatology inpatient ward and JAG accredited endoscopy units at Royal Stoke, County Hospital and the Community Diagnostic Centre. You will also provide expert advice to the inflammatory bowel disease and hepatitis MDT to support our outpatient cohort.
You'll work closely with pharmacy colleagues and multidisciplinary team members, with opportunities for education, development, research and networking. You will also train and support the development of trainee and junior pharmacists within the gastroenterology rotation.

Main duties of the job
Deliver a high quality, patient focused clinical pharmacy service to Gastroenterology and Hepatology Prioritise and review high-risk patients (e.g. those with epilepsy, diabetes, Parkinson's disease), ensuring their medicines are prescribed and administered within a timely manner Utilise your independent prescribing skills daily, working within your scope of practice Provide prescribing support for complex medicines e.g. aminophylline, vancomycin Support patient flow with mechanisms for obtaining discharge medicines both in and out of hours Review adverse incidents and take appropriate action to reduce future risk Review and develop guidelines and PGDs. Line manage and train and develop junior pharmacists and trainee pharmacists Work with the Advanced Clinical Lead Pharmacist for Gastroenterology, Respiratory and Endoscopy on the strategic development of the clinical pharmacy service to the Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Endoscopy departments.

Masters degree in Pharmacy (MPharm) Member of the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) Postgraduate Clinical Pharmacy Diploma / MSc or equivalent qualification Postgraduate Clinical Pharmacy Certificate and working towards completion of the Diploma Independent Prescriber with appropriate annotation on GPhC register or willing to undertake
Desirable
Member of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society (RPS) Formal management and / or leadership qualification Member of UKCPA and / or specialist groups
Knowledge, Skills, Training and Experience Essential
Comprehensive experience as a clinical pharmacist practitioner including a solid grounding in a broad range of clinical specialties Extensive hospital pharmacy experience Commitment and evidence of continuous professional development (CPD) Computer literate and able to use Windows applications including Microsoft Word, Excel, Teams and internet
Desirable
Clinical pharmacy experience within the specialty Evidence of involvement in pharmacy practice research and/or audit Experience line managing and/or conducting formal appraisals Evidence of involvement in writing of guidelines oPresentation of an abstract on pharmacy practice research at a regional / national conference or publication in a peer reviewed journal
