About this role

Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Radiology team as the Imaging Quality and Service Improvement (QSI) Lead.

This role has been created to support delivery of the Quality Standard for Imaging (QSI) programme and wider quality improvement ambitions across Imaging services, contributing to delivery of Community Diagnostic Centre (CDC) programme objectives and continuous service improvement.

Working collaboratively with Radiology Team Leads, clinical leaders and operational teams, the post holder will facilitate the effective delivery of clinical governance through robust quality management systems and improvement methodology within the departmental governance framework.

The role will support the development of safe, effective and patient-centred imaging services by strengthening quality assurance processes, embedding evidence-based practice, supporting regulatory and accreditation requirements, and driving a culture of continuous improvement.

A key aspect of the role will be supporting patient experience and facilitating patient partnership in service evaluation and redesign.

Main duties of the job

This role requires specialist knowledge and experience in imaging quality improvement, governance and service development, with particular focus on implementation and coordination of the Quality Standard for Imaging (QSI) programme.

The post holder will:

Lead and coordinate service-wide quality improvement initiatives across Imaging services. Support implementation and ongoing development of QSI standards and associated assurance processes. Interpret audit, quality and performance data to identify opportunities for improvement and monitor outcomes. Coordinate engagement with regulatory and accreditation bodies including CQC and QSI where required. Oversee governance systems including document control, policy review and compliance monitoring. Support management of incidents, associated learning and improvement actions, and maintenance of departmental risk registers. Chair and facilitate governance and improvement meetings where appropriate. Develop and deliver training and engagement activities to support quality improvement capability. Contribute to service planning, policy development and strategic quality priorities across Radiology.

The post holder will act as a visible advocate for quality improvement and support teams to embed sustainable change that improves patient safety, staff experience and service delivery.

About us

We operatefrom three main hospitals-Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community healthcare premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, andUlverstonCommunity Health Centre.

FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services.

WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non-life threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses.

All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies,daycase and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.

Person Specification

Education and Qualifications Essential

Degree in healthcare or relevant subject (e.g. Radiography, Healthcare Management, Quality Improvement) Evidence of continued professional development relevant to quality improvement/governance

Desirable

Formal training in QSI, governance, or quality improvement methodologies (e.g. Lean, Six Sigma, QI leadership) Project or change management training

Experience Essential

Significant experience working at a senior level within a Radiology or other NHS Diagnostics department Experience of leading or supporting QSI accreditation or other healthcare quality standards Experience of leading audits and analysing service performance Experience of facilitating or chairing meetings with multi-disciplinary staff Experience in project management and delivering service improvements Experience of staff supervision, training, or mentorship

Desirable

Experience of liaising with external regulatory or accreditation bodies (e.g. CQC, UKAS)

Skills, Ability & Knowledge Essential

In-depth knowledge of the Quality Standard for Imaging (QSI) framework and accreditation process Awareness of national healthcare quality standards, governance processes, and audit methodology Understanding of radiology workflows and documentation processes Knowledge of document control, outcome measures, and audit cycles Understanding of clinical governance, risk assessment, and incident review processes Strong leadership and influencing skills Excellent communication and interpersonal skills across all staff levels Ability to organise, prioritise, and manage own workload and multiple projects Competent in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and online systems Analytical and report-writing skills Ability to manage sensitive information with discretion and professionalism Able to train and coach others in quality-related processes
