Job summary
This is an exciting opportunity to join Leeds Perinatal Mental Health Service to work within the Yorkshire and Humber Mother and Baby Unit (MBU). The MBU is based in Leeds and provides care to women and birthing parents from across the Yorkshire and Humber region, together with their infants. This vacancy has arisen as part of an expansion of the MBU with additional beds and the post will involve contributing to service development as well as working clinically on the inpatient unit.
As a Senior Clinical / Counselling Psychologist, you will work closely with the multi-disciplinary team while providing a clinical service to service users. You will form part of the psychologicaltherapies provision in the wider service, alongside fellow psychological professionals. The service is research active, involved in regional and national initiatives relating to perinatal mental health, and encouraging of continuous professional development to support team members in providing the most effective and high quality clinical care for our service users, their infants and families.
This post involves providing direct specialist psychological interventions to women and birthing parents experiencing mental health difficulties during the period of inpatient admission to the Yorkshire and Humber Mother and Baby Unit (MBU).
Main duties of the job
Service users admitted to the inpatient unit suffering with severe and complex mental health difficulties, frequently in the context of concerns relating to the safety and wellbeing of themselves and/or others (including their baby). The service provided will involve the application of evidence-based psychological approaches to the assessment, formulation and individual, parent-infant and group interventions.
The role involves contributing to the psychological components of the planning and delivery of care to service users as part of the multi-disciplinary team. This includes participation in MDT meetings, developing psychological formulations to inform wider care planning and providing consultation and supervisory support to colleagues in the service. The post involves liaison with other services, particularly including specialist parent-infant, maternal mental health and perinatal mental health services across the region alongside other multi-agency meetings, to support continuity of care pre- and post-admission to the inpatient unit.
As a member of the psychological professionals within the wider Perinatal Mental Health Service, the role involves contributing to service development projects and supervision of others including clinical psychologists in training. The role will involve utilising research skills for audit, policy and service evaluation within the area served by the team/service.

Qualifications Essential
Doctorate level training in clinical psychology as accredited by the BPS (or equivalent for those who trained prior to 1996) with HCPC registration or Doctorate level training in Counselling Psychology with HCPC registration Formal training in supervision of others.
Skills Essential
Skills in the use of complex methods of psychological assessment, formulation, intervention and management frequently requiring sustained and intense concentration.
