Job summary
The post-holder is a Paramedic who acts within their professional boundaries.
Paramedics work independently within their scope of practice, using their enhanced clinical assessment and treatment skills to assess and manage patients presenting with acute presentations which include minor illness or injury, abdominal pains, chest pains and headaches.
The post-holder will be an integral part of the general practice team.
Main duties of the job
- Work as part of a multi-disciplinary team
-Assess and triage patients, inclu same day triage, and as appropriate provide treatment including prescribing medications, or making referrals
-Advise patients on general healthcare and promote self-management where appropriate, inclu signposting patients to social prescribing services and other community or voluntary services
Be able to:
- Perform specialist health checks and reviews within your scope of practice
-Perform and interpret ECGs
-Perform investigatory procedures and undertake the collection of pathological specimens including blood samples, swabs, etc
-Support the delivery of anticipatory care plans and lead certain services
-Communicate at all levels ensuring effective, person-centred care
- Communicate proactively and effectively with all colleagues and attend meetings as required
- Maintain accurate and detailed health records of your consultations
-Communicate effectively with patients, their family members and carers
-Receive referrals and patients from triage
-Develop yourself and the role through participation in clinical supervision, training and service development activities
- Actively signpost patients to the correct healthcare professional
- Keep up to date with the latest guidance, ensuring conform to NICE, CQC etc.
-Be aware of duties and responsibilities relating to current legislation and adhere to practice policies and procedures on safeguarding
-Support in the delivery of services

-Support the delivery of QOF, incentive schemes, and other quality or cost effectiveness initiatives
-Deliver training, mentoring and guidance to other clinicians and staff on medical emergencies
-Support virtual and remote models of consultation
-Undertake any tasks consistent with the level of the post and the scope of the role, ensuring that work is delivered in a timely and effective manner
Person Specification
Experience Essential
Completed your two-year Consolidation of Learning period when a newly qualified paramedic Completed a further three years experience as a band 6 (or equivalent) paramedic Attained Level 7 capability in paramedic areas of practice
Desirable
An appreciation of the new NHS landscape, including the relationships between individual practices, PCNs and the commissioners Experience of working autonomously
Clinical knowledge and skills Essential
Ability to communicate complex and sensitive information effectively with people by telephone, email and face to face Understanding of safeguarding adults and children Commitment to reducing health inequalities and proactively working to reach people from all communities Ability to work within own scope of practice and understanding when to refer to another healthcare professional Ability to record accurate clinical notes

Qualifications Essential
Educated to degree level in paramedicine or equivalent experience Working towards Level 7 capability in paramedic areas of practice Registered with the Health and Care Professions Council as a Paramedic Working towards Masters level or equivalent capability in paramedic areas of practice and has completed and been signed off formally within the clinical pillar competencies of the NHS E Paramedic FCP/AP Roadmap to practice Completed and been signed off formally within the clinical pillar competencies of the Advanced Clinical Practice Framework.
